    3. Hello June, Ray Westlake's "English and Welsh Infantry Regiments" puts the 1st Btn "The Buffs" in Ireland 1910-1914 and the 2nd Btn in Singapore 1910, then to India in 1913. The 2nd were brought back to England in 1914 before crossing to France in January 1915. He could of course be wrong, though he is a reputable military historian, or there could have been detachments of the 2nd Btn sent to India in the year you mention. The following link to pages on the "The Buffs" website does seem to confirm Singapore as their 1911 posting. You have to scroll down to find the reference to the postings of both regular battalions and of the militia battalion. It is tucked away ! http://www.kentfallen.com/PDF%20REPORTS/1911%20ARMY%20LIST.pdf If you have his name and particularly his army number you may be able to find out a lot about him in his service record at the NA, but you may have to visit. Good luck, Sid On 7 April 2010 20:27, June Vasey <junev@aberl.fsnet.co.uk> wrote: > Can anyone advise how to search the 1911 census for soldiers serving > in the British Army in India. i.e. The East Kent Regiment 'The Buffs' > >
