    3. Hi Chris I have done quite a bit of research into this myself concerning one of my ancestors. (Notes sent off-list) The short answer is that if the divorce was a "legal" one, he should be noted as divorced on the 2nd marriage certificate, however other ways and means were still practised, and desertion or private separation may be the case, i.e. no legal annulment of the first marriage.
