    3. Hi List I have an ancestor who scarpered to australia on the promise he would send for his wife ,when settled in and was working!!, however he did not ,I guess he met someone else there , or maybe even died soon after arriving there, .his birthday was on valentines day and forever afterwards on that day, his wife cursed him to hell !!. I have tried to find australian BMD,s ,but it seems they might have destroyed the records (very bad), from what i can see on the web., so how do I research his new marriage? or his death there?. His name was John (v) ROGERS , born shropshire 1947, he married Agatha Teague b 1846 G.Hodge

    3. Hi Gary Australian researched is complicated by the fact that each state looks after their own records, and consequentially what is available online varies. It's the census records that are destroyed after the statistical information is taken from them, but the BMD records are available depending on where your relatives lived. Do you know where in Australia (as in what state) and what date he was there? I've done some Aussie research (from London) so I'll see what guidance I can give. 3. Firstly Gary you state 1846 & 1947 for the births or John and Agnes, so which is it please..... 2. Have you any idea of when they did a bunk to Australia.....and where he went to????? 3. Your answers will dictate the reply because records are kept in various places and some are available online. It is census data that was destroyed and yes that is rather lacking foresight. A few for 1841 survice in some places....... a) My LDS has BMD's for South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria BUT only up to early 1900's if I recall correctly. Other than that it is the Library's that "may" carry more recent ones. b) Try these websites for starters http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/search.htm http://www.coraweb.com.au/bdmau.htm states and territories database information. 3. Hi Gary, If he was born in 1947 he could very well still be alive, not so much an ancestor as a relative - or should that be born 1847? Birth indexes are available up to 1920, marriages 1959, deaths 1979. National Archives have arrivals to 1950. I don't know if you will find him in any of these indexes, he is too recent. Australian White Pages might help - http://www.whitepages.com.au/wp/resSearch.jhtml I don't know where you got the idea of records being destroyed, totally wrong, but you may be crossing over into the area of privacy laws to protect living people.
