    3. Nick, I guess you tried Burkes Peerage - probably nothing will be there about the bastardy. Also, the Times on-line is a good site to search. The house in Westerham is most likely Quebec House which is owned by the National Trust. General Wolfe was the most famous inhabitant. I met the manager of the house about 4 years ago and he was telling me that the NT was marketing Quebec House for the wrong reasons. The house itself has a fascinating history and is architecturally interesting - more so than the general! Now, if you check out the "Images of England" website on a slow Sunday you will find the listed description of Quebec House and Churchill's home Chartwell. You will also find my name attached to one or two of the photographs! :-) Cheers Richard Brown Bromley, Kent U.K. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Message: 1 Date: Sun, 24 Jan 2010 07:58:50 -0800 From: "Nick Wilson" <nickwilson@shaw.ca> Subject: [KENT-ENG] CHURCHILL of Westerham, Kent To: <KENT-ENG@rootsweb.com> Message-ID: <91FED5810B544011B617AF20B9A04BFB@OwnerPC> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Hello, It gets pretty quiet here on a Sunday morning so I spent some time googling the name of my only titled relative, a great aunt, and came up with some interesting facts. I discovered for the first time her mother had been the mistress of George Charles, who later inherited his father's title as the 8th Duke of Marlborough, and whose nephew in later years was to buy a house in Westerham, Kent. His uncle, the Duke in waiting, sired a bastard son in 1881 in Paris, who then became an unwelcome and embarrassing half brother of my great aunt. This was a very well kept secret when I was growing up seventy years ago At best, this is a half relationship and came to me through my great aunt's marriage to one of my maternal grandfather's older brothers, but can anyone tell me what relation, if any I am to WLSC? Thanks, Nick
