Hi Jan Ancestry.co.uk family trees actually has the Fewer family tree which includes George E J Bath. The daughters are on there but there is not much detail. If you establish that this is the right family and you don't have access to Ancestry I will be happy to forward an email on your behalf. This shows George Edward John Bath b Dec Qtr. 1864 in Charlton, Dover, (ref: 2a 748) died 1909 Dover (ref: 2a 538) with a marriage to Elizabeth Johnson in Dec Qtr. 1889. However on checking FreeBMD for this marriage (ref: 2a 1827)it appears to show George's wife as Elizabeth Mary Elvey (however possibly a widow at marriage - although she is a bit young for this having been shown as being b 1868 on the Fewer family tree). I have found an Elizabeth M Elvey b Rainham, Kent in 1871. She is living in Adisham, Kent. I can't find her in the 1881 census nor can I find her birth on FreeBMD nor an Elvey/Johnson marriage. I agree with Sue, the most obvious for your George A Bath is the birth in Dover 1917. You will have to get the certificate to find the mother and hopefully the father. 2. There is a family of two sons and four girls living in Dover under the name of Bath on the 1901 census. It would pay to keep this family in mind, especially if George turns out to be illegitimate. Any one of the girls could be the mother. Plus the fathers name is George E J Bath, so it's distrinctly possible. 6 Hultsdorph Cottages, Dover George E J Bath 36, postman, born Charlton, Dover and wife Elizabeth M, 32, born Rainham Kent with children Harold C F, 10, born Charlton, Dover Mary M, 9, born Charlton Dover Elizabeth F, 6, born Buckland Dover Edith F, 5, born Buckland Dover Mabel E, 3, born Buckland Dover George, son, 2, born Charlton Dover 3. The national archives documents online is constantly putting up naval records of various discriptions. There are seamens lists, medals, seamens wills and all sorts on this website. I had a quick squizz but I am having trouble with the site at the moment, which is unusual... but pays to keep checking these sites, even if nothing comes up right away. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/ 4. British Royal Naval personnel records have 3 repositories - see the attached website for Mariners http://www.mariners-l.co.uk/UKRNPersonnel.html 5. if you find a record and have trouble deciphering it (as I did with one of mine) then join a Mariners list at rootsweb. They are a mine of information including deciphering the jargon and the history of ships that people served on etc etc Gives great background on the person, when you have all this. 6. There is only one Bath and Briant marriage when just putting in bath + Briant in freebmd Sarah susannah Bath and possibly married James Briant in Stepney in 1858 - so this probably won't help much.
