George William Cook was born in 1823 in Wappenham, Kent, and I estimate he travelled to NZ in 1845-1849 but haven't been able to find out the name of the ship, date of departure or arrival or anything else. He was a Methodist and it is believed in NZ he spent time on Kawua Island (very north) working in the copper mines there. He appears to have emigrated on his own. All the latter is family folklore and I have checked but records that exist in relation to the old copper mines on Kawau Island do not mention him. I know Auckland would have been a closer port to Kawau but advised the list of Wellington to cover all bases.
