Hello, I am trying to find out why a relative who was a teenager and unmarried went to Yaldham, Kent to have her illegitimate baby in 1886 when she was a housemaid in London, and was born in Berkshire. She didn't register the baby at the time but made a declaration at the Chelsea Register Office after going back to London after the birth. The baby Rose Emma Kathleen BRANT was born on the 20th Oct 1886 at Yaldham, her mother, Minnie BRANT made the declaration at Chelsea register Office on the 13th November 1886. Does anyone have any idea why she would have gone to Yaldham to have the baby, was there a home for unmarried mothers or something like it, at that time? Minnie didn't keep the baby, would she have left Rose at Yaldham when she went back to London? Can anyone help please? Regards, Myrtle
