Hi Jim Looking at the River CMB CD he seems to have been a stray PIPPY. CD gives his age as 44 and date of burial 13 Jun 1819. Nothing else I'm afraid and no marriages or baptisms for any PIPPYS. I see a few Philip Pippys in Newfoundland on familysearch, which I expect you have seen. A cousin has just found a burial on Find My Past for one Philip PIPPY, buried 13 June 1819 at St. Peter and St. Paul in River Parish (Dover). This the first instance of anyone by that surname in Kent. We are wondering if this was a solo event, or if there was family living in the area. Is there any way of determining if there are others of that surname buried there? We have yet to try the censuses for the area. Known variants of the surname are PIPPEY (known around Bristol), and PEPPY (found around London and Cornwall). Any help or ideas welcome. Jim Roberts New Brunswick, Canada (PIPPY was my mother's maiden name). ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to KENT-ENG-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

That burial was on Find My Past, taken from the NBI. >I see a few Philip Pippys in Newfoundland on familysearch, which I expect >you have seen. Yes. We have gleaned just about all we can in Newfoundland. We have traced back to 5 brothers, but nothing to connect them to except `Unknown' parents. The oldest we have was born 1754 in Newfoundland. We have many descendants documented. The given names George and William are common in Newfoundland, which has made it quite a chore to keep them separated! I mentioned Bristol, where the spelling was PIPPEY, but 2 generations there were about the early to mid-1800s, so no connection readily found. Bristol is the likely port of departure for the fishing fleets. Many Thanks for your help. Jim
