I am always interested in the surname SKEY, as two brothers came to NZ about 1860, Henry and William, their father died , mother not sure off, have had different stories! But they did well here in NZ. William became the Colonial Government Analyst for 37 years. Buried at Clareville Cemetery. We strongly believe the family were in London, but have tracked down many of this surname even to Gloucestershire. Both brothers did some prospecting for gold, Henry stayed in South Island, William eventually came to North Island. This Skey family have the middle name of Fortesecue. Some time back, someone did contact me from Italy, being descended from Henry's line. William married into the Francis family here at Clareville. Wonder if there is any connection to the family of Skey mentioned on this list today? Adele Pentony-Graham Carterton District Early Settlers Researcher Carterton Cemetery Clareville Taphophile Group
