Thanks to all those who replied re my question regarding death duties. From the Will it appears there was little cash disbursed; 15 properties in Canterbury and one in Herne Bay with shares in the local turnpike linking the two. There appeared to be assets in the form of share(s) in an Insurance company. In all the probate did ‘not exceed £3,000’ a very considerable sum it must have been back then. Unfortunately I have very little information on the deceased or his family save for his two nephews mentioned in the Will; Thomas, who was my 3*great grandfather, and Samuel, on who I have no information.
