    1. [KENT-ENG] Family Search
    2. Regarding the microfilmed Kent records that are available through The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Anyone can access those records, you do not have to be a member of the church.  Go to https://familysearch.org/  and then select "search".  From there you can search by name or move further down the page and see what specific records are digitized and browse by location.  Some are indexed others are just the raw images.   You will see that many of the records are not indexed yet, and anyone can sign up to help with this.  Select "volunteer" at the very top of the page.  Many people choose to index areas where their ancestors lived in order to speed up the process of indexing the millions of records microfilmed by the church for genealogy and family history research.    Many records are not yet digitized.  Some are only available on microfilm that can be ordered from Salt Lake City and read at a Family History Center.  There is no charge for visiting the center, but there is a fee for ordering the film.  It should be noted that there are books available at the main library in Salt Lake City that are not microfilmed yet and can only be accessed by a visit there.   To find Family History Center nearest you go to https://familysearch.org/locations/centerlocator     There are 4,600 centers in 126 countries.  All are available for anyone to use free of charge.   You can also donate records to the Family History Library in Salt Lake to have added to the collection.  This can be anything, including cemetery headstone inscriptions or a history of your family.  The fastest way to do this, is to digitize your records using a scanner, etc, and then send that information on CD to the main library in Salt Lake.  They will notify you when the records are online.  This is also a good place to archive information for others to view.  I can provide further information on this should anyone be interested.   Hope this helps, Reenee

If you have used the Kent History and Library Centre for family history or any research either in the Community History area or the searchroom and think it could be improved you might like to know about the Kent History Centre Archive User Group. This was recently set up to improve the experience of archive users/family historians/genealogists at the KHLC, Maidstone. The email address is usergroupkhcarchives@gmail.com; it is also on Facebook-Kent History Centre Archives User Group and there is a Twitter account as well- Kent History Centre Archives User Group @KHCArchivesUser. Another issue that we hope to highlight is that digital images of many of the Kent archive records are listed on FamilySearch; however the images can only be viewed by members of the LDS, at a FamilyHistory Centre or at the KHLC using Kent History Source. This is not providing good access to a key resource. For sometime the Kent County Council website has said that Kent History Source will eventually be available in all Kent libraries- the more the people of Kent there are who say they would want the images available in their local library the sooner it might happen. I'm not sure whether it is R.S.O. or R.S.D. I was thinking perhaps it stands for Resident Surgeon's Office or something similar. But maybe it was some sort of medical facility or hospital. The death was certified by W.E.L. Batty M.R.C.S. (Member Royal College of Surgeons). I've located a William Batty, surgeon who was living in Oak Villas, Langton Green in 1891 with his wife, Ellie. Perhaps it was his surgery? Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated.

Column 1 - when and where died Date of death in day/month/year format Early registers usually only show a village name but towards the end of the nineteenth century the street address was usually shown. Next job will be to see if those records still exist and are accessible Thanks, Neil snip If you go to this website www.theclergydatabase.org.uk and search for Thomas Rowland you will find some details of him. It says he was appointed Curate of Brooklands & Old Romney in 1814 and curate of Ivychurch in 1817. I can't see him in 1841 and unfortunately I only have deaths up to 1813 on the KFHS CD. Sue
