Hi All If any lister living in Toronto would be prepared to look something up for me in the Toronto newspapers over the last three weeks, could they please contact me off list. Many thanks Dave Dixon BA (hons) - Economic & Social History - University of Kent - Canterbury 1997 www.fadedgenes.co.uk
Hi there Annie Just catching up with my emails. I am new to the list and I don't have Ancestry but have seen Junior Carp for Junior Carpenter; as opposed to Master Carpenter before as an occupation. That is possibly what it is. Cheers Sharyn GUTHRIE New Plymouth NZ
Hi Everyone, Is there anyone going to the Kent record office that could check a marriage and banns for me? The marriage I am interested in is: James Parker & Mary Cocking 5 November 1792 St. John,Margate,Kent,England Hoping to find out whether they were of the parish or any other info given, Thanks so much, Lorna
I have been told that Eliza BARTON had a son Stephen BRITTON in 1802 in Hadlow, Kent. Can anyone confirm this from old parish records? If so, who was the father? Norma
Sydenham appears to be on the borders of Lewisham and Bromley. The LMA holds the parish registers for three churches in Lewisham 7 only St Mary's has records going back to 1777 - the others (Christchurch Forest Hill) & St Peter's Eltham Road Lee) were Victorian foundations. Looking at Phillimore, Bromley parish registers go back to 1558, so you might want to try Kent record offices. I did find a marriage in Clerkenwell in 1849 but nearly all their children were born years before!! Their first born child Sarah was christened in Farningham kent in 1835 and i had hoped there would be a marriage in the same place. Hope someone can help, Thank you very much, Pauline _________________________________________________________________ Time for a new car? Pauline, There is a marriage on the IGI between Henry Colyer and Sarah Bell on 26 May 1853 but this a member submitted record and does not give a place. It also gives Henry birth as 06 MAR 1831,Rochester, Kent. No details for Sarah. Might be worth following this up. Looking for some assistance please. Which church(es) should I search for the baptism of John Chick whose marriage in 1777 ( http://tinyurl.com/yb57hgd ) stated that he was of the parish of Sydenham, Kent? The LMA London Generations "Places In London Boroughs" does not give me any clues except for the London borough of Lewisham possibly being the right area. So far I have searched Lewisham St Mary without success. c1756 is way too early for any of the Sydenham churches listed at http://www.nwkfhs.org.uk/syde_plc.htm I may have to be patient and wait for Ancestry to index pre1813 London baptisms. Maureen Thank you. I had missed this as transcript states Northumberland trial instead of the correct Nottingham trial It looks like he may be my 1881 candidate. Diana Thank you so much for the reply. As a result I found the link an Ancestry and decided to upgrade my membership so that I could look at the record. Thanks to that I was able to track back to the newspapers to find his crime. He was guilty of stealing 25 pigeons and was sentenced to 15 months (the family shame!) Your help was most appreciated Now off to find who could have been in Kent gaol in 1871 and 1881 Best wishes Peter On 10 Jan 2010, at 14:09, Dianadiluca@aol.com wrote: > > Hi Peter, > > There is an entry on Ancestry on the Criminal Registers 1791-1892 > for a George Wilbraham, Trial was 6 Mar 1867 in Derbyshire and > sentence was imprisonment. > > My subscription doesn't give me access to the details but perhaps > someone who does have the full subscription will kindly send you the > details. Good morning I am a Derbyshire lister who is new to the Kent list trying to track down my criminal ancestry. One (or two) of my Wilbraham strays were in Kent gaol in 1871 and 1881census 1871 Gillingham Kent Prison George Wilbraham unm 24 lab of Sutton in Ashfield 1881 Gillingham Kent Prison George Wilbraham marr 35 baker of Chesterfield I am wondering if this is one George Wilbraham or two? If one he has married and become a baker between 1871 & 1881 My question: Are there any Kent prison records which may help me? Sadly age and distance do not allow me to travel down to Kent archives I am not too hopeful (Derby gaol records were left to rot in the execution pit under the gallows!) Fingers crossed, Peter
Hi Peter, There is an entry on Ancestry on the Criminal Registers 1791-1892 for a George Wilbraham, Trial was 6 Mar 1867 in Derbyshire and sentence was imprisonment. My subscription doesn't give me access to the details but perhaps someone who does have the full subscription will kindly send you the details. Not sure why he ended up in Kent if the trial was in Derbyshire though. There are also 3 other entries - different dates - for a person of the same name in Nottinghamshire. Perhaps someone can send you all of them so you can figure out who was who etc. Regards Diana In a message dated 10/01/2010 11:07:56 GMT Standard Time, ppatilla@mac.com writes: Good morning I am a Derbyshire lister who is new to the Kent list trying to track down my criminal ancestry.
