    1. [KENT-ENG] Faversham CMB - Goodwin - Sainte
    2. Suzannah Foad
    3. The fellow of Faversham whose baptism I am looking for on this post, was one Morgan GOODWIN c.1575. He had trouble with his son John c.1595 who, in 1617 stole one Gelding from his father worth £7. He was found guilty but had ran off to Hythe. I am hoping to find more on this at Canterbury Archives soon. Another son, Daniel Goodwin, by Morgan's fourth wife, made an interesting choice in his first marriage  Daniel GOODWIN of Swalecliffe, Husbandsman Bachelor, 23, whose parents are dead, and Joan SAINTE of Swalecliffe, Virgin, about 50. July 22nd 1642. Would be interested to hear from an Sainte descendants Suzannah One ancestor, Benjamin FOAD was put into St Augustine's Prison for 7 days for being 'idle and disorderly', something which has passed down the generations!! :) ----- Original Message ---- From: dennis bramble <d.bramble@mypostoffice.co.uk> To: Suzannah Foad <suzannah.foad@btopenworld.com>; KENT-ENG@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, 14 January, 2010 20:24:36 Subject: Re: [KENT-ENG] Faversham CMB prior to 1620 All I can offer from my lot is one bigamist, tried at the Old Bailey and given one day only in prison as punishment. 2. Joan Smith
    3. My ancestors Thomas Tunbridge and William Beane, both Quakers, were imprisoned a number of times in horrific conditions in Dover Castle between 1656 and 1684, but I can find no record of Dover Castle and its prisoners in that period. I found the details of their imprisonment in the book 'Sufferings of Early Quakers', but would be grateful if anyone could tell me of any other sources of information I could use to find out more. Joan Smith.

    1. [KENT-ENG] Goddard and Bevill Hastings Military Hythe Kent
    2. Alex Gill
    3. Im trying to find more detail on Samuel Goddard . I have a Samuel Goddard m Elizabeth Brookes 1772 Lewes and I believe was based in Hastings . A Samuel Goddard who married Elizabeth Bevill 1802 Hythe in Kent and I have two children I know of from this marriage 1814 and 1817. I dont think these are the same person but more likely father and son I cant find a birth for the son. I havent been able to trace the death of either Samuels or Elizabeths but the children were born in Guernsey.Ive no idea why they would have been born in Guernsey. Ive been through the military links for Goddards and I have come up with Capt Goldsworthys 1st Dragoons , 16th Dragoons, 20th Dragoons, 14 Regiment of foot , 50th Regiment of Foot and Royal Volunteer Artillery all Samuel Goddards in this timeline. I have a death Cert for one of the children Selina Collins which states her father was a Captain in the Army but this data is not always true depending on who supplied the data, as she died here in New Zealand. One of the children Eleanor Bernard retired to Hastings St Leonards on Sea and I found her on the 1891 census an inscription on an old photograph of her stated she died about 1904 but there doesn't seem to be a record of it. The only confirmed data I have is that Elizabeth Bevill married Samuel Goddard it was mentioned in Solomon Bevill's will and that the children's grandparents were Solomon Bevill as mentioned in personal letters between them and other family members at that time. Can anyone help or advise where to go next?

    1. [KENT-ENG] TERRY/MATSON/FREEMAN
    2. drwarner
    3. Good Morning List, In my TERRY FAMILY TREE I have, as many of us do, a few mysteries to unravel . 1.... James TERRY b: 1782 in Kent possibly the Eastry/Goodnestone by Sandwich area. He married a Mary BELSEY 06 Feb 1806 Parish Church, Goodnestone by Wingham, Kent,(this has been verified), so where and who were his parents? 2...Mary's parents were Isaac BELSEY & Ann KEMP not John BELSEY & Elizabeth VANSON as many of us doing the BELSEY Tree were lead to believe. Isaac BELSEY b: 1751. Death Certificate shows death at aged 89 in 1840. Once again where and who were his parents? 3...James and Mary TERRY had a child named Matson TERRY b: 1818 in Rowling, Goodnestone by Sandwich. Whom was he named after? 4... Matson TERRY married Mary WANSTALL in 1852. They then emmigrated to NSW. Australia. They had a son Freeman Matson TERRY b: 1863, Grafton, NSW, Australia. The Matson yes possibly after his father but the FREEMAN is now a mystery. So all in all I feel that way back the MATSON and FREEMAN families are possibly linked to the TERRY family in some way. Does anyone on the list have any of these names which may help to solve my BRICKWALL. Many thanks, Ruth New Zealand -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter. Bear in mind that someone who was given as "of this parish" doesn't necessarily mean they actually were. It just means they've qualified to be given as that. -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton and Greinton, SOM Asst OPC for Ashcott and Shapwick, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk
