    3. Hi Mary, My dads brothers and sisters were born Greenwich and Deptford but always seemed to be baptised in the same Church. The Worwoods even waited to return from Birmingham to rotherhithe surrey before baptising two girls at the same time......one was 5 at the time of her baptism. "Usually", although not always, when this happens the vicar puts the birth date on the baptism register. Perhaps you need to expand your search in years. Moving around seems to be an issue here. 3. Hi Zandara Thank you for your reply.. I have trolled through Medway records for days and then saw that there was a CD that covered Strood baptism records and just wandered if someone could have a quick look in case I missed something in the millions of searches I did on Medway without any luck..My Eliza said she was born Strood but I feel she was not christened there as I can not find her in that area.. Is it unusual for a person to be born in one place and christened in other. The father was a brickmaker so I feel that he must have moved around to find work.. 2. Hi Jacky, There are two family trees on Ancestry for Henry Joseph Head. One of them however has his wife as being Emily Gardener (which you have as the occupation for Henry) instead of Emily Cox. There are two living children for Henry and Emily. Both trees have his parents as Charles Head and Eliza Seward. One of the trees has extensive information about Charles as being a police constable/superintendent. Also full details about Vincent George Head one of Henry's brothers. There is one dying in 1951 in Andover, Hants, aged 84, and his age matches your information. June quarter 1951, Andover 6b 57. There is an entry for Emily G Head, registered in December quarter 1946, aged 84, Hendon 5f 18. I think these might be the ones you're after. Regards James Butler

    1. [KENT-ENG] MAPCO : Online Map Of Surrey 1874 with Place Name Search Engine
    2. David Hale
    3. Hello All. The place name transcription work on the 1874 map of Surrey has now been completed, so I am pleased to launch the map on the MAPCO website. It is: Map Of The County Of Surrey From Trigonometrical Survey With The Roads, Parks & Railways 1874 http://archivemaps.com/mapco/surrey1874/surrey1874.htm Use the thumbnail map at the top of each page to navigate your way around the map. Hovering your mouse pointer over the thumbnails will display a pop-up message showing the areas covered by that map section. A coloured thumbnail image shows you where you are on the map. The usual 'click to enlarge' feature applies to the individual map section images displayed. This map includes a comprehensive search feature for place names. The search feature is located at the top right of each page, with a search box containing the words "Search This Map". The Search Engine enables a targeted search of the entire 1874 map of Surrey. The spelling of place names has been accurately transcribed from the map, so reflects the spelling used on the map. No modern updating of place names has been applied, so some lateral thinking may be required to find a desired street or place. Refer to the ' Complete Index Of Surrey Place Names' link if you are having difficulty finding a place. My sincere thanks to all of the Listers who volunteered to assist with transcribing the place names from the Surrey map images. Thank you all for doing such a wonderful job! Sincerely, thank you. Enjoy this beautiful map! Kind regards, David Hale, Adelaide, South Australia. 3. Huge thanks to Pam Hillier for finding the baptism of Susanna Wigmore at St Johns Horsleydown - I have now found a marriage on the Surrey marriages CD published by the West Surrey FHS for William Thomas WIGMORE and Susanna ASQUITH - so that nicely establishes the Wigmore/Asquith connection and explains the mourning ring - Amos Asquith's will mentions his daughter Susanna. Thanks, too, to Judy Lester - I've emailed the Lewisham Local Studies people but I am now pretty certain that the St Margaret's, Lee, marriage in 1820 is the one I've been looking for. 3. Thanks, Pam - I have the FARMERs pretty well sorted in Bermondsey, I just can't find the marriage of Edward Thomas. The Farmers were ropemakers/mariners/carpenters; the Edward Thomas baptised in 1796 is him (he?). I'll investigate the Susannah Wigmore 1798 baptism - the family bible has her dying in 1872 'in her 75th year' so that might fit. What I really need is the 1820 marriage! And an ASQUITH/WIGMORE marriage would be nice too ;) Anne pam hillier wrote: > Hi Anne > No Marriage that I can find by other means but I have not got the marriage > cd......only the baptisms. > Just a thing of note Anne, Bermondsey is being transcribed by the West > Surrey FHG not Kent. > 4 Asquiths on the CD > 13 Wigmores and a swag of FARMERS, loads in Bermondsey. > lee is 3.6 miles from Bermondsey according to Parloc Parish locator. > BUT > There is an Edward Thomas FARMER baptism St Mary Magdalene Bermondsey > 25/9/1796 to Nicholas and Ann (ropemaker), birth date 22/8/1796 (making him > 24 at marriage) I wonder if this is him. > others of lesser note..... > > 2. 1. [KENT-ENG] St Margaret's, Lee - marriage 1820

    3. Hi Anne No Marriage that I can find by other means but I have not got the marriage cd......only the baptisms. Just a thing of note Anne, Bermondsey is being transcribed by the West Surrey FHG not Kent. 4 Asquiths on the CD 13 Wigmores and a swag of FARMERS, loads in Bermondsey. lee is 3.6 miles from Bermondsey according to Parloc Parish locator. BUT There is an Edward Thomas FARMER baptism St Mary Magdalene Bermondsey 25/9/1796 to Nicholas and Ann (ropemaker), birth date 22/8/1796 (making him 24 at marriage) I wonder if this is him. others of lesser note..... 2. There's one Asquith In St Mary Mag, Bermondsey, Bapt Thomas Gibson Asquith son of David and Susanna, captain, 29/9/1786 born 6/9/1786 Susanna???? 3. There's also a David FARMER, son of Edmund and Ann, baptised 14/2/1728/9 born 13/2/1728/29 These are all Bermondsey St mary mag and notice the links to the sea (Captain, ropemaker) Casting my eye quickly down the list of Farmers, they could mostly be connected to the sea, ropemakers, Mariners, Captain, carpenter (could be ships carpenters) 4. There are three Asquiths in Hoseleydown, children of Phillip......and interestingly, there is a Susannah wigmore born Horsleydown, St Johns to A William Thomas and Susanna WIGMORE, bapt 11/4/1798 and born 20/3/1798 - WT was a biscuit maker. 5. You still need the marriage to really clinch the birth hon...... But I hope this helps a little. Cheers Pam from Adelaide Australia > > For years, I've been looking for the marriage of my gggrandfather Edward > Thomas FARMER to Susannah ? - he > came from a Bermondsey (Surrey) family and there is a connection (his > mourning ring has been handed down as a > family heirloom) through Susanna with Amos ASQUITH, who was either her > father or grandfather, a Bermondsey > brewer who died in 1793, so I disregarded this marriage in the IGI, > thinking > that Kent was unlikely. > > EDWARD THOMAS FARMER > Marriages: > Spouse: SUSANNA WIGMORE > 12 MAR 1820 Lee, Kent, England > M016504 > > However, browsing through the Ancestry LMA collection, I discovered that > Lee > was in the Hundred of Lewisham > (only about 6 miles from Bermondsey) and some of the St Margaret's records > are in the database. 3. For years, I've been looking for the marriage of my gggrandfather Edward Thomas FARMER to Susannah ? - he came from a Bermondsey (Surrey) family and there is a connection (his mourning ring has been handed down as a family heirloom) through Susanna with Amos ASQUITH, who was either her father or grandfather, a Bermondsey brewer who died in 1793, so I disregarded this marriage in the IGI, thinking that Kent was unlikely. EDWARD THOMAS FARMER Marriages: Spouse: SUSANNA WIGMORE 12 MAR 1820 Lee, Kent, England M016504 However, browsing through the Ancestry LMA collection, I discovered that Lee was in the Hundred of Lewisham (only about 6 miles from Bermondsey) and some of the St Margaret's records are in the database. The marriages, however, end at 1813. My local FHC has just broken its only fiche reader (wasn't me, honest!), so getting the film isn't an option at the moment. I'm hoping the marriage entry will give Edward's parish as St Mary Magdalene, Bermondsey. I've Googled and there seem to be some transcriptions in the Lewisham library but not for the period I am interested in. I'd be grateful for any ideas as to where I can find out the details of the marriage; their first child was born in March 1821, so it fits. Anne South Australia

    3. Anne, I don't have the necessary PR but a quick search at ParishRegister.com does show a Edward Thomas Farmer as a hit on the register for St Mary Magdalene (Bermondsey) between 1782 & 1812. The detail is only available with payment. HTH Peter For years, I've been looking for the marriage of my gggrandfather Edward Thomas FARMER to Susannah ? - he came from a Bermondsey (Surrey) family and there is a connection (his mourning ring has been handed down as a family heirloom) through Susanna with Amos ASQUITH, who was either her father or grandfather, a Bermondsey brewer who died in 1793, so I disregarded this marriage in the IGI, thinking that Kent was unlikely. The marriages, however, end at 1813. My local FHC has just broken its only fiche reader (wasn't me, honest!), so getting the film isn't an option at the moment.
