    1. [KENT-ENG] BELSEY Family - New researcher
    2. K Scott
    3. I started tracing BELSEY only yesterday - on behalf of my Uncle - and I have just seen another post regarding them I thought I would add what I have so far My uncle was adopted by Walter Ernest BELSEY and his wife Sybil, I have all of Walter's brothers and sisters, I found Walter BELSEY's father and he is Thomas H BELSEY born in Ramsgate in 1861 and he married Emily Jane ALLEN So if anyone out there has any further info that would be great I have been tracing my own tree since 1986, and I was asked my cousin on Sunday to help and found this list very helpful especially with my QUESTED/ COLEMAN puzzle! So thanks again Karen Peterborough UK

    3. Following on from Diana's list of Mary Belsey sightings and just to add to the confusion. I saw the reference to the Mary who was born Coldred. The Coldred PRs show an Isaac Belsey bap 20 Jul 1755 son of John & Ann Belsey. Don't know if you have this one Ruth! The only Mary Belsey I can see baptised in Coldred around 1787 is Mary dau of Henry & Mary of Coldred Court. Mary b 5 May bap 27 May 1787 Coldred. So this appears to tie up with Mary No. 3 on Diana's list, although you say she is not the one who married James Terry. The only Belsey baptism in Coldred for parents John & Elizabeth Belsey is John Belsey bap 2 Dec 1744. This says John was of Shepherdwell. For near on 20 years I believed that I was connected through John BELSEY & Elizabeth VANSON( according to Margaret's chart), supposedly through their daughter Mary BELSEY whom she said had married James TERRY. This fact has now been found to be untrue. Yes a Mary BELSEY did marry my James TERRY in 1806 but her parents were Isaac BELSEY & Ann KEMP. They married 10-Oct-1776, in Ickham. This Isaac BELSEY was born abt 1751 and died 15 Feb 1840 in Rowling, aged 89. I have his Deat certificate which shows a Charlotte BELSEY as the informant. Charlotte was married to Isaac's son John. What I need to establish is who were Isaac's parents and where was he born? His wife Ann KEMP was born in Northbourne but as for Isaac I haven't a clue. I have looked at all the Isaac's in my tree and there are quite a number of them but alas none in or around 1751. 3. Betty, Lewisham was in Kent before 1889, then in London. It's one of several locations that Ancestry have recorded incorrectly in their databases as being in Middlesex. While your couple may have married at St Mary Lewisham, the marriage registers were damaged by a fire at the church in the 1830s, and only fragments survive for the relevant period. So your best hope is that they married somewhere else! I wouldn't assume that the mother came from Lewisham on the basis of the daughter's baptism. Do you have any of these people in a census? For a better chance of getting some useful help, can you tell us more of what you know, and what the source of your information is? A family of a similar name arrived very early in the colonial Maryland, USA. In fact, there is a Kent County, Maryland, founded in 1642, named for the English Kent County. The county seat is Chestertown. The Maryland Lucas family intermarried into the Swan, Hughes, and Rice families, as well as my Crago family. Are the Swan, Hughes, and Rice families also represented in the Kent County, England? Regards, Steade

    1. [KENT-ENG] TRIGHURST
    2. Dear listers Can anyone help with a look up in the Criminal Registers on Ancestry for a JAMES TRIGHURST the trial date is Kent 1830, and he was imprisoned. My membership does not cover anymore, and the full sub I have on FMP does not have this information. The TRIGHURST name is missing in 1841, but I have seen correspondence saying that a certain James Trighurst went out to Canada, where a son died, but they obviously returned to Kent. They were from the Rainham, Strood area. Thank you for any help regards Lynne

    3. Robert and Stella, I agree Robert, it is important to make copiuos notes and I have even given my reasonings for various things. My Legacy programme has a wonderful list of events, nearly everything is covered, including cause of death and a notes section attached. You can specify whether this is printed or gedcomed etc....... Cheers Pam from Adelaide Australia Stella, You are right. State the facts. However I would like to add a proviso, based upon what genealogy programmes have to offer in logging references, notes etc against various facts, such as BMD events. There is normally the facility to quote a source. Some programmes will offer standard references to sources which is OK to a point. There should be a system where you can specify the way in which you record sources. For example, I have the UK censuses listed as: Census - 1841, Census - 1851, etc up to Census - 1911. I have used a standard method for recording headings, and then when I want to add a census as the source of a particular find, I will call up the heading, and enter the detail, such as the Film / page / folio number for that particular find. I have tried to work out a consistent approach to building up source headings, and this has paid off quite well. Now, I will transcribe information from the find in the standard fields offered up by the programme for the source, exactly as written down. My programme has a field which states "Text as written" into which I will transcribe the information about the item.

    3. Two of my ancestors (husband and wife) died in the cholera epidemic of 1846, within ten days of each other. The wife died before it was realised that this was a cholera epidemic and the cause of death was given as 'natural congestion of the lungs'. When her husband died the cause of death was given unambiuously - 'cholera'. Brenda
