Hi All, I was wondering if someone has a subscription to Find My Past, if they could advise what the population was for England (only) according to 1911 census, Thanks, Peter, Melbourne, Australia
In case it helps others, Woolwich was in Kent until 1889, then in London. HI to all on the list It's been a while since I posted to the list but I get the Digest form everyday to keep up to speed with postings. I have a question and was hoping someone on this list might be able to shed some light. My George William Cook (a copper miner) emigrated from Wappenham, Kent, between 1845 - 1849 (aged 22 - 26yrs) to Wellington, New Zealand. Can someone please advise what shipping records exist in England which could identify his departure? Alternatively, surely there would not have been too many departures from England to New Zealand during the period of 1845-1849. Is anyone able to identify the name of the ships? Here in NSW we have published journals which list assisted and unassisted immigrants to NSW but I have no way of accessing English ships who landed in Wellington, NZ. Any help would be greatly appeciated. Kind regards Cherylanne.

The figure would be for England and Wales, not just England. You should be able to find the answer on the OPCS site. Google will find the URL. -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, Greinton and Clutton, SOM Asst OPC for Ashcott and Shapwick, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk
Just wanted to say a quick 'thank you' to Sue, John , Janis and Peter who responded to my posting about the above families. Since then I have also received a lot of helpful information about the BUTLER family from Brian Butler - enough to keep me busy for quite some time! Thanks again Jane
Hello Cheryl-Ann, Just in case this may help. James BRAMBLE of Badlesmere near Faversham married Sarah Ann Justice at Hoo in 1848. Two years later they travelled as assisted emigrants to Sydney N.S.W. They travelled on the vessel, "Cornwall" from Devonport, Devon. Now better known as Plymouth. Devonport being part of Plymouth. The record is in the archives at Sydney, see 1850. Regards, Dennis Bramble. Hi listers, this time I'm seeking any PEARSON and WANSTALL connections around the Thanet areas. George Augustus Pearson (ch 1821) married Sarah Wanstall in 1849 in Eastry. Sarah's background is unknown. I believe George and Sarah had 4 issue, George Henry b1850, Sarah Ann b1852, Mary Jane b1856, and Ann Emily Jane b1862, all in Walmer? Any info appreciated, no matter how small. Cheers, Robyn of Oz. PS. A big 'thank you' to Pam and Anne, both of Oz, for their speedy replies and help re my Miller/Pearson enquiry.

Hi Cherylanne I found details of my gg-grandfather's arrival in New Zealand on the Papers Past site. That gave the ship's name and then I was able to work the rest out by going the the Tomes Archive online to work out date and place of departure. There are actually a lot of ships travelling at any one time during this period. And don't forget he may have set out to go elsewhere, changed his mind and went to New Zealand instead. Hello, I am trying to find out why a relative who was a teenager and unmarried went to Yaldham, Kent to have her illegitimate baby in 1886 when she was a housemaid in London, and was born in Berkshire. She didn't register the baby at the time but made a declaration at the Chelsea Register Office after going back to London after the birth. The baby Rose Emma Kathleen BRANT was born on the 20th Oct 1886 at Yaldham, her mother, Minnie BRANT made the declaration at Chelsea register Office on the 13th November 1886. Does anyone have any idea why she would have gone to Yaldham to have the baby, was there a home for unmarried mothers or something like it, at that time? Minnie didn't keep the baby, would she have left Rose at Yaldham when she went back to London? Can anyone help please? Regards, Myrtle

"Sunday last died at Brompton, near this town, after a long illness, Mr. Ivet PANKHURST, a Quarterman to the Shipwrights of this yard."

Hi all, I'm new to this list and am hoping someone may be connected to this couple. Annie Emily Jane Pearson was bc1861 somewhere in Kent...maybe Walmer, Eastry or Maidstone. She married Alfred John Miller,( b1861 in Newington, Sry,) but marriage date is guessed at 1844 in Eastry. Annie's parents were George Augustus Pearson and Sarah Wanstall. Hi, On a final note, I have found the marriage :- Nathaniel Rudd, Bachelor Rebecca Rudd, Spinster. Looks like the Block part is a ruse to confuse. Hi Peter Don't worry too much about gaps between marriage and births. I was married 29 years before my daughter was born. Cheers Jill
Karen, In 1911 you'll find the family in Camberwell (London), indexed under INESTER. Edith is still with them. RG14/2471 SN357. HTH Judy London, UK -----Original Message----- From: kent-eng-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:kent-eng-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of K Scott I did post a couple of weeks ago about the puzzle of my uncle's birth mother I thought you might like a quick update As you might remember I was looking for an Edith Olive COLEMAN otherwise known as Edith Olive QUESTED born according to her death cert in Marylebone 1895 The informant on the death cert was L G MABEY son in law, so I found his birth (14.02.1926) and his mother was also a QUESTED, so sent for his birth cert hoping that his mother would lead us to our Edith Lawerence George MABEYS mother was Amelia Charlotte QUESTED and his father is down as George MABEY ( can't find their marriage) So I went straight to 1901 and found Amelia with her brother and her parents Amelia & Frederick QUESTED and living with them at the time was a 5 year old girl called Edith COLMAN with place of birth unknown, I have been unable to find the family so far on 1911 but its early days yet, but it least its solved the reason she used Coleman and Quested as a surname Karen Peterborough

Hi I have determined that the marriage of Alfred HILL and Harriet SQUIRES took place at Ss Peter & Paul, Aylesford, Kent, on 26 Jul 1857. Does anybody have access to the appropriate parish register, who can confirm the name of Alfred's father.
