The registers of baps. start about 1720. They have other data as well . A lot of dissenters are buried in Bunhill Fields in London . Over 120, 000 burials . I visited it 2 years ago , and found it most interesting. REv. William Jenkins who died at Newgate 1684 is among them . His mother was a dau. of John Rogers . His funeral prcession included over 150 coachs and his dau. gave out rings which really ticked off the King . Daniel Defoe is the most famous person there . THere is an office at the cem . that has records of who is interred within . Wesley's church is accoss the street . His mother Susannah is buried there. You can Google "Bunhill Fields " for good info. but the online list is very incomplete , so best to visit in person . 3. Hello Christopher, May I suggest that your "Broughton" should be Boughton of which there are at least four parishes with that name in Kent. Boughton under Blean, Boughton Aluph, Boughton Malherbe and Boughton Monchelsea. As you are refering to 16th, Century it is posible that there was an "R" in the Boughton in those days. Spelling at that time was not standerdised. Best wishes in your huntin'. 3. Hello Christopher, I don't know of a Broughton in Kent other than a biggish property/estate near Sevenoaks. There is Boughton, a village near Faversham. There are four parishes in Kent with name Boughton as a prefix, or if you prefer it the other way, with other names as suffixes ! - Aluph, Malherbe, Monchelsea and - under Blean The latter is the village near Faversham, As surnames had variants so, historically and up to a point, did places particularly if you compare with 16th c spellings Lots of Broughtons elsewhere in the country ! Your choice, but the Broughton House was not a parish ! 3. Hi Joan Thanks for the tips. George William Cook was born in 1823 in Wappenham, Kent, and I estimate he travelled to NZ in 1845-1849 but haven't been able to find out the name of the ship, date of departure or arrival or anything else. He was a Methodist and it is believed in NZ he spent time on Kawua Island (very north) working in the copper mines there. He appears to have emigrated on his own. All the latter is family folklore and I have checked but records that exist in relation to the old copper mines on Kawau Island do not mention him. I know Auckland would have been a closer port to Kawau but advised the list of Wellington to cover all bases. Thanks Cheers Cherylanne ----- Original Message ----- From: <kent-eng-request@rootsweb.com> To: <kent-eng@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, February 27, 2010 7:00 PM Subject: KENT-ENG Digest, Vol 5, Issue 74 > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. 3. I would very much like to find a newspaper report concerning the death of a Great Uncle Donald Herbert BAKER in the Q March 1955 in Folkestone. We believe he died in a motor cycle accident, so assume the local papers of the time would have covered this event. I will be purchasing his death cert to confirm this, but also interested to the occupation of Donald Herbert Baker. I am very willing to do a look up in return for the Thanet area, or if someone could suggest a researcher in the Folkestone area I can engage to look this up for me. Any suggestions great appreciated Many Thanks Suzannah

    3. Hi I have had the experience of trying to locate unassisted immigrants fro Kent to NZ. Unfortunately those listed in the on-line records are usually the more affluent passengers paying for first or saloon class cabins. I found mine after many hours of trawling through films of the passenger lists held at our local library, although they were later, in the 1870's. Papers Past is an excellent site, or try NZ Archives in Wellington. They have a card index and would do a look-up for you.
