>From Ipswich Journal, Saturday, June 27, 1801; Issue 3569. Francis BASSETT and David POOLE, the Churchwardens of the parish of Beckenham, in Kent, convicted of illegally refusing to make a Poor's Rate for that parish, to the great injury and distress of the poor, were brought up for judgment. The Court, in consideration of their promise to reimburse Mr. JACKSON, through whose kindness the poor have been relieved, all the money he has laid out, and the expenses he has incurred, consented to take their own recognizances, in the sum of £100 each, to appear when called upon. The rule against them is enlarged till next term.

Thank you so much for your suggestion - I hadn't realised that they've got all those wonderful images - I shall have to start doing some trawling and see what I can find. Hi, I would love to find more details about the life of Clara ELLIOTT. She was born around 1867/8 in Cape Coast Castle (Africa) the daughter of Samuel ELLIOTT and Sophia Martha GIBSON. Samuel was a soldier with the 32nd Regiment and this was his second marriage and his wife was a minor at the time of their marriage in 1862 in Devon. I have found this about him - The National Archives of Kew Original page number: 122 Samuel ELLIOTT; Rank: Coastguard; Born: [Not Given]; Age on entry: 21; Dates served: 9 December 1836 - 31 December 1866; Date and Type of Application: Whitehall 19 December 1866 Sophia was the daughter of Thomas GIBSON and Isabella CARRUTHERS, a quartermaster with the Royal Artillery. Clara was in the 1871, 1881 census in Kent with her grandfather and his second wife (Ann Jane SUDWEEKS). Her grandfather was deceased by 1891 and her step grandmother was in the Woolwich Arsenal and nurse. In 1891 she is in St Cuthbert and a housemaid. I have not found a death for either of her parents but I do have a possible sighting of her mother in the 1881 census married to a John LOMBARDO. None of them appear to be in England for the 1861 census and I have not located Sophia or Samuel in the 1871 census. Is anyone researching Clara ELLIOTT? Thank you Regards, Pat Wade (Nee King) Melb, Vic

Hello Listers, I'm new to this List and hope that SKS can help break down a couple of my brick walls. I'm looking for the following: i) The baptism/birth/parentage of William Wood born about 1806 in Edenbridge. ii) The baptism/birth/parentage of Thomas Mitchell born about 1781 in Farnborough, Kent. I'm also looking for his marriage to a lady called Catherine which may have been in Chelsfield/Chelfield as all their children were born there. Any guidance/tips/help would be appreciated! Jennifer

Hi Andy, I suggest that you add info from cert as a posten on freebmd, so it's available to all. I am doing this with all my certs, whether related or not. Carol > > Minnie born to Edward SHERWOOD and Isabella RELPH
Hi to one and all This is my first posting to the Kent list. I am researching my brother-in-laws RUDLAND family tree which I believe goes back quite a few centuries in Kent. However so far I've only been able to get as far back as William RUDLAND born about 1812 in Horton Kirby. William marriad Mary BROWNING, born about 1816 at Sutton-at-Hone, Kent. William and Mary were living in Sutton Street, Sutton at Hone in the 1841 census. Although I haven't been able to find a marriage for them yet they did have a daughter aged 1 with them and a younger son in 1841, which suggests they were married about 1837 or 1838. I can't find an IGI reference for Williams birth and would be most grateful for any help with his parents etc. Thank you in advance Liz Stilwell __________ Information from ESET NOD32 Antivirus, version of virus signature database 4940 (20100312) __________ The message was checked by ESET NOD32 Antivirus. http://www.eset.com

What about this from Pallots, 1802 Southwark...James Hibbard to Rebecca Sorrell?? Sending information off list. It does sometimes take a while for the registration to register with the system. That said, I've just registered and been able to log in. Did you inadvertently transpose a couple of characters or put a comma instead of a full stop after gmail? Both are easy enough to do. -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, Greinton and Clutton, SOM Asst OPC for Ashcott and Shapwick, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk
The announcements of any family events being food and drink to the family historian, I registered at once with the new site and was told the registration had been successful. Unfortunately I have been unable to login since, as it insists that my email address does not exist. I have emailed the website to report the problem but no reply received yet. If I can get it to work for me, I envisage it being a very useful tool.

Doesn't really look like a site > - that would have our Genealogy Research Interests - available - > seems more -of a social page - with more current announcements It doesn't have to just be current announcements. That's not the sole intent of the site. It is a new site and as such needs more people to input their family information. I was forwarded an announcement last night about the site and the owner of it is someone I think a good many people will already know, just do a search of Rootsweb for "familynotices", setting the year for 2010 <G> This is a part of the mail (note the third and fourth paras which I've emphasised): <quote> So I created FamilyNotices.org - which is an on-line repository for all notices of Births, Deaths, Marriages, Engagements, Anniversaries and Missing Persons. This has the advantage of being world-wide, unlike the 'local rag' and better still - is free. *Genealogists won't find it very useful for some time, until some numbers of posting have been made, but it has to start somewhere. I suspect there may be teething problems, but.....* *Please feel free to help yourself and post anything which is relevant and appropriate - and it doesn't have to be current. Details of 'Auntie Millie born in 1896' is just as relevant as a modern-day wedding notice.* If you like it, please tell your friends .........& if you don't just tell me! </quote> > You can place an obituary here, or even store > <http://www.familynotices.org/write_your_own_obituary.php>your own > for future release! This could be useful as it would mean you'd be able to include things you thought were important and something that could be added to, if your children or other family members wished. A bit mawkish perhaps but no worse than a cousin did when he buried his wife (she had died first!). He had his name and date of birth engraved on the headstone along with her details so there's just his date of death to be added! -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, Greinton and Clutton, SOM Asst OPC for Ashcott and Shapwick, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk

After a 30 year search I'm asking for help finding a marriage of James Hibberd b.1774ish of Edmondshom, Dorset to Rebecca unknown b. 1774ish, Woolwich, Kent. They were thought to have married in Lambeth, but nothing found to date. There is a marriage 1802 of James Habbard to Rebecca Sorrell, Christ Church, Southwark, however, at that time my James and Rebecca are in Edmondshom, Dorset having had two children. If there is anyone who can help, it would be most appreciated. Catherine
