Hi Andy, My first guess was the V probably stood for Valentine, if he was born on Valentine's Day. Nothing in the Qld BMD's with the parents' names you provided, thanks for that info. NSW has nothing with the parents' names, but a number of deaths for John ROGERS with parents unknown. Gary, There is a John Valentine ROGERS, a blacksmith, living at 133 North Road, Newport, Melbourne in 1903 Electoral Roll. This is the only mention of him on the rolls. Hope this helps. Hi again Gary, Okay, I have him now - John V. ROGERS, aged 39, arrived in Queensland aboard the "Dacca" on 14th December 1887. I've checked Qld BMDs, no death, marriage or children born to John V. ROGERS. Plenty of entries with John only though in all categories, so his parents' names might help identify him. Now you have a starting point, you might try joining the Queensland list - http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/AUS/AUS-QLD.html Cheers Trish Nowra NSW >>> how do I research his new marriage? or his death there?. >>> His name was John (v) ROGERS , born shropshire 1947, he married Agatha >>> Teague b 1846 >>> G.Hodge

Hi Trish It looks as though Gary will never find out unless John married without the 'v' and any descendents are researching as well. Gary - might be worth joining a couple of the Aussie Rootsweb lists and putting everything together in the hope that someone may have details on the other side of the coin, as it were. Hi Gary, If he was born in 1947 he could very well still be alive, not so much an ancestor as a relative - or should that be born 1847? Birth indexes are available up to 1920, marriages 1959, deaths 1979. National Archives have arrivals to 1950. I don't know if you will find him in any of these indexes, he is too recent. Australian White Pages might help - http://www.whitepages.com.au/wp/resSearch.jhtml I don't know where you got the idea of records being destroyed, totally wrong, but you may be crossing over into the area of privacy laws to protect living people. Cheers Trish Nowra NSW > I have an ancestor who scarpered to australia on the promise he would > send for his wife ,when settled in and was working!!, however he did > not ,I guess he met someone else there , or maybe even died soon after > arriving there, .his birthday was on valentines day and forever > afterwards on that day, his wife cursed him to hell !!. > I have tried to find australian BMD,s ,but it seems they might have > destroyed the records (very bad), from what i can see on the web., so > how do I research his new marriage? or his death there?. > His name was John (v) ROGERS , born shropshire 1947, he married Agatha > Teague b 1846 > G.Hodge
Firstly Gary you state 1846 & 1947 for the births or John and Agnes, so which is it please..... 2. Have you any idea of when they did a bunk to Australia.....and where he went to????? 3. Your answers will dictate the reply because records are kept in various places and some are available online. It is census data that was destroyed and yes that is rather lacking foresight. A few for 1841 survice in some places....... a) My LDS has BMD's for South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria BUT only up to early 1900's if I recall correctly. Other than that it is the Library's that "may" carry more recent ones. b) Try these websites for starters http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/search.htm http://www.coraweb.com.au/bdmau.htm states and territories database information. Hi Gary Australian researched is complicated by the fact that each state looks after their own records, and consequentially what is available online varies. It's the census records that are destroyed after the statistical information is taken from them, but the BMD records are available depending on where your relatives lived. Do you know where in Australia (as in what state) and what date he was there? I've done some Aussie research (from London) so I'll see what guidance I can give. His name was John (v) ROGERS , born shropshire 1947, he married Agatha Teague b 1846 G.Hodge
Hi List In which section of Find My Past does one search for divorce records? Thanks Sharee
Hi Chris I have done quite a bit of research into this myself concerning one of my ancestors. (Notes sent off-list) The short answer is that if the divorce was a "legal" one, he should be noted as divorced on the 2nd marriage certificate, however other ways and means were still practised, and desertion or private separation may be the case, i.e. no legal annulment of the first marriage. Regards Sharee in NZ
