In the 1911 census James Bensted is living in Chegworth Court with his family including son McKenzie aged 24 & daughter Ellen aged 22 an art student. I am interested in Ellen and the Bensted family's relationship with Evelyn Leslie Redgrave. She was a recognised artist and daughter of Richard Redgrave RA, they lived in Knightsbridge. I have a watercolour by Ellen painted in 1914. It is of Street Farm, Ulcombe, where I believe James Bensted or an earlier James B lived. In 1921 Evelyn Redgrave painted the same building. I also have a photograph of the farm house dated possibly late 1800s or early 1900s with an old couple standing in front. It's an intruiging story, any help would be fantastic. Luned in Tasmania
P.S. to my previous. On checking I also have some Gregorys in Loose (19th Century) and a Goatham (b London 1819) who went to Australia. LINDSEY , of Priory Cottage, Bromley, was amusing himself with a fowling-piece in the parlour, it went off, and the contents lodged in the abdomen and thighs of his younger brother, a boy nine years of age, who is not expected to survive. Both Captain and Mrs. LINDSEY are absent from home, having left on a visit to Brighton the day before the melancholy accident took place.
Hello Gillian, Jordan. On of my side interests due to more than one connection to my maternal and paternal lines. The Jordan family in my interest is the line from the Faversham area, Burghton-u-Blean, Selling and Sheldwich moving on to Hoo.1800 -2010. If these are your interests I can put you on to descendants of that line. Best wishes, Dennis Bramble. There are several marriage indexes for Kent relating to different areas of the county and different dates. Some are commercial indexes and you can find details (and lots of other useful information about Kent) on Maureen Rawson's website at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mrawson/ . There is also the Mid Kent Marriage index (which is free) at http://www.woodchurchancestry.org.uk/midkentmarriages/ Hope that helps Pauline On 28/06/2010 14:34, Beverly Roth wrote: > Is there a marriage index to Kent county like in Sussex County? In 1901 there is only one man, coincidentally in Kent (John STAPYLTON), who has been enumerated as born in Burberry Hauthorn (sic). In other censuses, he is enumerated as born in Hawthorn, Durham - so Burberry, in that case, was possibly the name of a house. Other censuses show Burberry, Warwickshire (can't find it), Burberry, Berkshire (a mistranscription of Blueberry), Burberry Herefordshire (actually Busberry, probably Bosbury) and Burberry, Oxfordshire (actually Banbury) as places of birth. What other information do you have about your ancestor ? Can you be more precise about the date of birth ? Have you looked for the birth registration in FreeBMD ? If you give us a name we may be able to help further.
