My replies direct to Helen on this are being rejected as spam, so I am trying again via the list: Hi Helen Are you sure you have the correct year for his birth? Only there was a Henry Milsted baptised in Plumstead on 22 Jan 17/86/, born 30 Dec 1785, with parents Jeremiah and Mercy Milsted. Jeremiah Milsted married Mercy Bodle in Plumstead on 30 Dec 1779. I couldn't see any Milsteds around 1776, & census and burial records suggest that Henry was born around 1786. If you have an Ancestry subscription you will be able to see these entries there. Hope this helps Pauline On 12/07/2010 05:41, Helen Carlisle wrote: > I am trying to find details of this man, born c. 1776 in Plumstead. > He married MERCY STANLEY on 18 Jun 1812 in St. Mary's, Lee, Kent. > > I have not been able to find any earlier details on his before the 1841 > census when he is shown to be a policeman. > > I would very much appreciate to know if anybody has come across him in their > research as I would dearly love to know his parentage and ancestry. > > With best wishes and kind regards to all, > Helen

Pam, Just to clear things up and prevent researchers who are not in the know from getting thing the wrong way round regarding Hoo and Milton in relation to Sittingbourne. There are three Miltons on Kent. The Milton in the City Ark records is Milton by Gravesend. The other Milton, now part of Sittingbourne, is the one "next Sittingbourne" and is not in the Medway Archives. Hoo is not and never has been and never will be "next Sittingbourne". Please note that the parishes on the City Ark web site are all in the Deanery of Rochester. Milton (Sittingbourne) and Milton in East Kent are well outside the interests of the Medway Archives. Miton by Gravesend strickly speaking is outside of Medway but as they hold the Rochester Deanery records, Milton by Gravesend is in City Ark. One last important point. The politically administration of Medway, (Rochester, Chatham and Gillingham with some surrounding parishes is no longer part of the County of Kent. Hope this will help many researchers not familiar with Kent Geography. Kind regards, Dennis Bramble. ----- Original Message ----- From: "pam hillier" <pamhillier24@virginbroadband.com.au> To: "KENT-ENG-L rootsweb" <KENT-ENG-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, July 15, 2010 7:21 AM Subject: Re: [KENT-ENG] Edward Rossiter & Rosina Rossiter family connectionfrom1911 > Hi Ivan > I suggest you have a good wander around the City ark website. Do you think that Edward Rossiter may be also the brother of Thomas who married Ruth Baker. He was born in 1847? I have him born in Dover, however he had kids in Sittingbourne. Hi Gordon, This link might provide the answer if you search through it - http://www.boat-links.com/boatlink.html#top History of Gravesend (I couldn't see boat/ship building with a quick look) - http://www.archive.org/stream/historyoftownofg00crud#page/n5/mode/2up Portcities website may be worth a search - http://www.portcities.org.uk/london/server.php?show=ConNarrative.56&chapterId=414 I couldn't find anything around that timeframe on Historical Directories - http://www.historicaldirectories.org/hd/ Cheers Trish Nowra NSW > Could someone advise how to find how many ship building yards/docks (if > correct terminology} there were around High St Gravesend in 1814 please. > Gordon Bennett
Hi list, Could someone advise how to find how many ship building yards/docks (if correct terminology} there were around High St Gravesend in 1814 please. Many Thanks Gordon Bennett
Hi List, we just wanted to thank all the people who sent information about John Street of Greenwich, which has now changed its name Thank you ray, (my grandmother was Maria Bush from John Street,Greenwich)
Dear Listers, I'm new to this list and wonder if anyone can help cast some light on the above families. A cousin of my granny, Gladys Helena Henderson(1888) married Lyon Harrington Wisden(1884) in 1907.In 1911 he is living with his mother in Broadstairs with, Hilda Madeleine, who I believe is his young daughter, whilst Gladys, and actress, is visiting in Kensington. The couple divorced in 1913 and Gladys subsequently married Alan Hartree, (born 1888 in Lewisham) in 1914 in St. Martin. I don't know what became of her thereafter but daughter Hilda Wisden also had 2 marriages, the first to Jack S Warren in 1929, and the second to Maururice Weston in 1937.A daughter Juliet D Warren was born in 1930 . This branch of my Henderson tree has proved very elusive after 1901 so any general information about any of these parties would be of help. I know Lyon Wisden had at least 2 subsequent marriages one of which also ended in divorce. He died in 1929 but I've not found deaths for Gladys or her second husband or Hilda and husbands or a marriage for Juliet. Best wishes, Mary
I am trying to find details of this man, born c. 1776 in Plumstead. He married MERCY STANLEY on 18 Jun 1812 in St. Mary's, Lee, Kent. I have not been able to find any earlier details on his before the 1841 census when he is shown to be a policeman. I would very much appreciate to know if anybody has come across him in their research as I would dearly love to know his parentage and ancestry. With best wishes and kind regards to all, Helen
Dear Anne, Thanks once again for your very prompt response. That entry certainly looks like a good fit in relation to occupation and timing of the birth of the first child in 1839. The eldest daughter Ellen was born in Whitstable and the Harris farm was also in Whitstable. The place of birth for Hannah has been given thoughout all the census entries as Whitstable (1814) so I am a little thrown as to why the marriage would be held in Stepney unless her parents had moved there at some point. Thanks again for your continued interest and assistance. Hello, I am interested in the identty of the abovenamed, who was a witness at the marriage between Thomas Ridout, chemist and Esther Barnes, at Saint Alphege's Canterbury on 15th February 1823, and hope someone with Herne records for this period can help me. Thanks, Nick
There is a death notice for him in the Oracle and Public Advertiser (London, England), Friday, September 1, 1797; Issue 19 715 but unfortunately, no place of death is given "DIED Lately, Frederick George Mulcaster Colonel of Engineers and Major-general in the Army" 17th-18th century Burney Collection Newspapers His eldest daughter Frances died in her 23rd year "perfectly resigned to her fate" on 24th March 1796, again no place was given Oracle and Public Advertiser (London, England), Tuesday, March 29, 1796 He was based in Portsmouth just prior to his retirement in 1796, in command of the Company of Royal Military Artificers and Labourers; there are a few notices of desertions signed by him and other news reports regarding courts martial and the visit of the Duke and Duchess of York. Dear Listers, In the 1851 census for Whitstable David HARRIS aged 41 can be found at South Street Farm together with his wife Hannah and their three children: Ellen b 1839, Jane b 1845 and Clara b 1848. David Harris' birthplace is given as Herne Kent. I have traced this family in subsequent census entries and have sent away for a birth certificate for Jane Harris which is the line that is of main interest to me. To date I have not been able to identify a marriage for David Harris to Hannah which ought to be sometime before 1839 but have identified a potential Christening for David Harris in Herne for 19th March 1809. If anyone can identify the year of marriage for David and Hannah or indeed if there is anyone out there with more detailed knowledge of this family I would be delighted to hear from you . Thanks in advance for your assistance. Cheers Ian in Hong Kong
Ray I do have some WHIBLEY connections, but have not got much yet. A Robert WHIBLEY married my 1st cousin twice removed, Marjorie Edith BALDOCK, in 1930. I do not know where Robert came from, but they lived in Surrey, at least 3 children were born there (Robert, Brian, Roger). Anything sound familiar?
