I think it's labourer, with the latter letters running into each other. He's down as a labourer on Alfred's baptism record in 1896. Robert William Charles Chapple & Alice Lydia White married at Christchurch, Rotherhithe 9 June 1894. I can't read their professions, Robert's looks like tatman or latman. Can anyone improve on this, and what did their jobs involve? Many thanks, Carol

They were from S&N. The paperwork for them says they can't be sold or even given away. They won't work on my new computer either. So annoying when they cost so much. Connie in London
Thankyou Jill for your reply to my request. That Jesse Standen and Elizabeth married at Goudhurst in 1791 are the ones I am interested in. I am hoping my Mary Standen b. c 1800 - 1803 is their daughter. Cheers Margaret Boots. Hi Margaret, They certainly had a Mary baptised 31st July 1803 in Goudhurst, Kent. Mary was just one of 5 daughters and 3 sons. Hello Melvyn Have you got his orginal birth cert, that would help you Raymond Crafter. Sept Quarter. 1938 2a 962. Mother's maiden name Crafter. Hi - just so the list knows .... no, I'm not related to the Spiro's of the Spirograph - but I do go around in circles, with my genealogical research. Kind regards Ann Spiro Kent FHS member#9397 [email protected] I've often wondered if you are any connection to him/her of the 'graph'
Maggi Have you tried http://cityark.medway.gov.uk/query/results/?Mode=Search&PathList=%2FZ4a_Medw ay_Ancestors%2F%0A&SearchWords=&DateList= ? No search facility so you'll need patience and then there's no guarantee of success - but that's family research. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Regards Maggi (Blythin)
Many thanks to all who have given pointers to this person: I have ordered a copy of his birth certificate as family tradition has named a number of possible mothers labelled as sister or cousin to the woman who eventually adopted him; it may even be that the 'adopting' mother was his real mother - we shall see. Melvyn.
Hi again Dare I ask what this means connection to him/her of the 'graph' fame? Hi All, I have joined this list to try to find someone, anyone, who may have a family tree with a Thomas Hall or a James Shipwash Hall; or a Caroline Shipwash, in it. Possibly these people are from the Ashford District of Kent, perhaps even the village of Hothfield. Thank you ... James Shipwash Richmond HALL
Hello Gloria Lower Halstow churchyard was still in use in the mid-1800s - indeed, it contains 20th Century burials. There is a Methodist chapel on the road to Upchurch which I believe had its own burial ground. It might also be worth looking at the CofE parishes of Newington and Upchurch. The three parishes straggle into each other, and Newington churchyard in particular is vast. Gloria, Kent FHS have transcribed the PRs for Lower Halstow (CDROM19) but the burials only cover 1691-1812 Regards Peter Does anyone know if the church records have been copied and are available anywhere for Lower Halstow? Where would people in the mid 1800s be buried if not at the Church? Gloria
