    3. Jane, I do not know if this will help in the time period of your ancestor...but my apprenticeship records of the early/mid 1600s show the fathers name in the original books at London Guildhall...It will be stated in the initial apprenticeship date document/page...The father's name and the village and county will be listed. Hope this helps you. Donna   The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it will change; the realist adjusts the sails. ________________________________ From: Jane <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, March 21, 2012 4:57 PM Subject: [KENT-ENG] William ARNOLD b 1787 Sevenoaks Hello, Still trying to piece together the ARNOLD family from Sevenoaks, and I have found military records for a William ARNOLD, born 1787 in Sevenoaks, and enlisting in 1807. William moved from the 56th foot regiment, to the 22nd Light Dragoons, to the 13th Light Dragoons before being given a medical discharge in 1836. From 1808 to 1834 he was stationed in the East Indies. This William's trade on enlistment is listed as a tailor, which helps me to match him into the ARNOLD family I am tracing. Unfortunately, none of the military records show next of kin. I currently have 3 (maybe 4) W. Arnolds in the tailor/draper trade in Sevenoaks, but this man does not seem to fit the dates of any people I already have records for, so perhaps he is a cousin?? The eldest I have no info on, and really am guessing his name was William. There is a William in the Apprenticeship Indenture records in 1782 and 1792(as a master tailor) that I think may belong to this man. The 1782 record shows him with Henry Arnold also as master. His son William married Susannah CHAPMAN in 1792 and he died in 1820. His son William was born in 1801, married Jane SPENCER and died in 1869. His son William, born 1840, married Anna Maria JOSLING, moved to Gt Yarmouth, Norfolk, where my grandfather, Ralph Josling ARNOLD was born in 1886. Can anyone please help me identify the family of this military man William, and so give  him his place in the family. Cheers, Jane Eliza (nee Arnold) NSW, Australia ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Hi Mary Beth I have found a George Fox baptised at Shepherdswell on 11 July 1824 which would fit with the census data you give. His parents are Thomas and Catherine Fox. Thomas is listed as a farmer. There appear to be three older children by the same parents. I can't help you with a marriage date but the first child Amey was born in 1814, Charles in 1816 and Catherine 1820. There is a possible death for Catherine snr in 1829 aged 34. Hope this helps Helen -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Mary Beth Kitzel Sent: 20 March 2012 4:48 PM To: Kent Eng Subject: [KENT-ENG] Fox Family in Eastern Kent Hello Listers. 3. My census CDs are all from S&N and just checked all of mine. I replaced my computer over a year ago, and have never needed to use them since then. All my census CD's are working perfectly, mine open to Adobe, have no idea if later Census open any different, I certainly never at any time needed to register them. I have always found them very helpful when I have had to ring them, using them as I do for my subscription. Tricia > snip < > I have pulled out one of the CDs. 3. Hi Connie S&N are a very reputable company and their terms and conditions are perfectly reasonable. If you contact them and explain the situation they will, I am sure, be able to offer a technical solution. Best wishes Caroline > > I have pulled out one of the CDs. I don't understand how you get the impression they will only run on one computer. I bought several counties as well as London when they first came out, I run them on both a desk top PC and a laptop both using Windows XP, they also run on my Windows Vista desktop PC with no problem. I am no expert, but have you tried Windows compatibility wizard? That is meant to enable you to run older programmes, although I have yet to find the need. Jennifer

Hallo I don't know why they won't work but they don't. I don't use a Mac of any sort. I have pulled out one of the CDs. Under system requirements it says the following: "Note: This product requires registration before use and is designed for use on *one computer only*. You must have your operating syste installed on the "C" drive of your PC." The emphasis is theirs. Further on it says: "Personal Use Licence Opening this product means you are agreeing to the following conditions: This product can only be used for personal research by the original purchaser. This excludes commercial use, library use, loan, provision of a lookup service or print service. Breach of the above conditions may result in legal action. If you feel unable to comply, return the product for a refund. This product is non-transferable." Do you know what they might have done to stop the CDs working on another machine? There must be lots of people who bought CDs from them then bought a new computer. Connie in London

I don't change my computer until I have to. I don't understand why people want all the newest machines, opersting systems, programs and so on when they have a perfectly good working system. I still have a computer that runs Windows 98 and another which has so little memory that if I open two documents at the same time it crashes. The S&N CDs have something on them that allows them to be associated to one computer only. They won't work if you try to use them on another one. I was using them on a computer I no longer have.
