    3. Mary Beth CASTLE and PAGE families certainly did know each other. My 4xgreat grandfather was Thomas CASTLE who married an Elizabeth PAGE on 6 July 1811 at Stelling Minnis. Their son, Daniel CASTLE (my 3xgreat grandfather) was baptised 30 March 1814 at Stelling Minnis. They had a daughter, Thomasine Eliza, baptised 18 Nov 1832 also at Stelling Minnis. There were probably other children, but I don't have more info, nor any more on Thomas or Elizabeth yet. 3. David, Sorry I can't help with the mothers names. LDS has Charlotte baptised at Gravesend 4 Aug 1758 and this is confirmed by looking at the register images at Cityark. Unfortunately the register only has the fathers name. regards Peter Thomas Smart married Charlotte Dalton on 13 May 1782 at St Peter + St Paul Church, Gravesend. I have been told that Thomas had been born about 1747 at Milton by Gravesend and that his father was Thomas born in Kent about 1720 but I don't know the name of his mother. I have also been told that Charlotte was born at Gravesend about 1758 and that her father was John Dalton born in Kent about 1730. I also don't know the name of Charlotte's mother. Can anyone tell me the names of the mothers? David

    3. Hello Again Listers, Thank you for your assistance on my first enquiry. As usual, the generosity of people on this list is lovely. It turns out there are several men of different generations named George Fox living in that part of the county. I do most of my research into Weald families and not in the eastern parishes of the county. I gather from my reading that this is a common surname in those parts. How about Castle and Page families? Can any of you connect the dots amongst these three families prior to 1840? I have found circumstantial evidence in the Œ51 census that they at least knew eachother. But were they related? Thank you in advance for your help. Regards, Mary Beth

    3. Hi David I have found his parents in 1851. His father George John is shown as Late Major, Land Agent and Farmer b 1804 Ashford, Kent. He is farming in Fulsby, Tumby, Lincolnshire with wife Catherine b Leybourne Grange, Kent (This is at West Malling, Maidstone and from 1936 to 1996 was used as a Mental Hospital). Children with them are Catherine b Dover and Dora Jane b c1840 Tumby, Lincs. I assume George was already in the Army. I have the Ashford St Mary CMB but no Smarts on there. Maybe some else has Others. Although of course it's possible that he was from one of the surrounding villages and just said Ashford since it was the nearest town Regards Sue -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of HOLDEN DOROTHY Sent: 23 March 2012 00:07 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [KENT-ENG] SMART - Dover Hi David, Is this him - taken from the London Gazette - INDIAN LOCAL SERVICE. 2. Jane
    3. Hello, Still trying to piece together the ARNOLD family from Sevenoaks, and I have found military records for a William ARNOLD, born 1787 in Sevenoaks, and enlisting in 1807. William moved from the 56th foot regiment, to the 22nd Light Dragoons, to the 13th Light Dragoons before being given a medical discharge in 1836. From 1808 to 1834 he was stationed in the East Indies. This William's trade on enlistment is listed as a tailor, which helps me to match him into the ARNOLD family I am tracing. Unfortunately, none of the military records show next of kin. I currently have 3 (maybe 4) W. Arnolds in the tailor/draper trade in Sevenoaks, but this man does not seem to fit the dates of any people I already have records for, so perhaps he is a cousin?? The eldest I have no info on, and really am guessing his name was William. There is a William in the Apprenticeship Indenture records in 1782 and 1792(as a master tailor) that I think may belong to this man. The 1782 record shows him with Henry Arnold also as master. His son William married Susannah CHAPMAN in 1792 and he died in 1820. His son William was born in 1801, married Jane SPENCER and died in 1869. His son William, born 1840, married Anna Maria JOSLING, moved to Gt Yarmouth, Norfolk, where my grandfather, Ralph Josling ARNOLD was born in 1886. Can anyone please help me identify the family of this military man William, and so give him his place in the family. Cheers, Jane Eliza (nee Arnold) NSW, Australia
