Hi Again Daphne I've just learned that Charles Starr had a brother Jacob that came to Australia as well and died in Redern NSW in 1924. Kind regards Dianna
HI Daphne Thanks very much for that information, so John and Ann both in the workhouse. Oh dear, thanks Dianna
Thanks for the clarification. It seems that "Ellen" was registered (and enumerated in the census) as Eleanor (variously spelt). The family were at Little Brook Place Farm in 1861 - right next door to Norman Street Farm. Do you need the census image? Best wishes Caroline > Thanks for your welcome Caroline, > I must have had a senior moment, they were married in 1881. she was > aged 21. > she died in 1957 aged 97 I have her birth date as 17 March 1861. she > had a sister Annie that I know about who came out to Aus and married > here, and on her marr cert the witness is a Joseph SEARS and Emily > SEARS Regards Jan > > >
Hi Everyone I'm doing research into the above Charles Starr Charles STARR arrived from England on the Washington Irving on the 27th of September 1857 (to Australia). On the list of immigrants it states that he was 22 years old was an agricultural labourer, his native place and county was Kent, he was a methodist who could both read and write. He was the son of John STARR and Mary WRIGHT ( needs confirming). *Note Charles' birth is given as Cambridge/Cambridgeshire on two different certificates. One is his death certificate and the other is his son Charles' birth certificate. I would like to find Charles and family on the 1851 Census and I'd like to find his birth/baptism if possible. Any information would be great, kind regards Dianna from Australia

Hi Jan, and welcome. Are you sure about Ellen's birth year? I can't see an Ellen SEARS born in Sevenoaks around 1861. But there is one born in 1866 who can be found in the 1871 census with father George and mother Martha on Clenches Farm, Little Kippington, where the family seem to remain until at least 1911. Some information about the history of the farm can be found at http://kippingtonresidents.co.uk/doku.php?id=history:early. It looks as though your family's connection with the farm continued for some time! Hope this helps Caroline > > Hi, > I am new to list and are researching Edward Bittle BRIGHT and Ellen nee > SEARS, they were married in the Parish of Rivershead in 1887. Better to look at all the available census - they are listed at a couple of different addresses at the 'Clenches' so would have been working at the 'Big House' Lozzie T -----Original Message----- From: Jan Ashfold <[email protected]> To: kent-eng <[email protected]> Sent: Mon, 28 May 2012 14:14 Subject: Re: [KENT-ENG] Bright Thanks Karen, We searched that and now realise it is little Norman Street Farm, Ide Hill, Kent. would that be part of the farm you mention is for sale or a separate farm alltogether. The picture of Little Norman Street Farm is exactly the one that I have got here in Australia, so now I have to find out if it was owned by George SEARS or maybe he was working on it. the newspaper article that I have on Ellen says that she went into service in the Manor house in her teens. on the marriage cert Ellen is listed as a domestic and Edward as a gardener. we know that they worked on a large estate and were made redundant and came to Australia with their first child. I am wondering if it would do any good if I wrote to the house and ask them if they know any of the history. Hi Sue Thank you very much for that information. I had some of it, but by no means all. Thomas did indeed have a second wife, Lucy who I thought was born in Kent in 1901 -- thanks for the correction. I don't know Lucy's maiden name, nor do I know whether she and Thomas had any children together. As far as I know, Thomas and first wife, Caroline, had six children. You refer to child James in 1851 being with his wife Mary in Kensington, Middlesex. This was the first wife of James (my g-grandfather). She was Mary Holmes; they married in 1850; she came to Australia with him and died in Melbourne, Victoria in 1861. I don't know the exact date of their coming to Australia -- any information? Nor do I know if they had any children. Interestingly, James is shown in 1851 as an accountant. I had an understanding he arrived in Australia as a "banker", but have no real details. In Australia in 1865 he married a Rosalie Allison (about whom I have absolutely no details), and then Rosetta Richmond (my g-grandmother) in 1867 -- they had eight children. Cheers ... From The Sunday Times ( London, England ), Sunday, September 29, 1839; pg. 3; Issue 884. A boy, named SEALE , about 15 years of age, has been committed to Maidstone Gaol, charged with having set fire to Oxford Castle Farm, near Sevenoaks. The property consumed at the fire is estimated at 2,000 Pounds.
HI I am interested in knowing if Eliza Hall born in 1884 is any relation to Thomas Hall born in Hothfield, Kent in 1789. I would also appreciate anything anyone might have on the ancestry of the said Thomas Hall -- I've not been able to find anything regarding his parents, g-parents, gg-parents, etc. I am a descendant.
