Hi Peter, I suppose we can assume that D.Mutton could be James brother and maybe Sarah is either the wife of D Mutton, or groom and best man's sister. One part of family research Down Under that gets everyone excited, is if a convict is discovered. This is considered to be Aussie Royalty. While digging deeper this afternoon into Isaiah's second wife, Mary Wests' family tree, I found that she was the granddaughter of one Thomas Yarwood aka Woods, a convict sentenced to Life for theft. He came from Weaverham in Cheshire and arrive in the Colony per "Indefatigable" in 1815. He would have been the gg grandfather of the 4 doctors and the journalist Selma, the children of Isaiah Mutton Jrn. I am sure that the chappie I am helping with the family research will be very impressed indeed. Good morning Listers, I am helping a friend with his MUTTON family. I was hoping that SKS could help me with the maiden name of Ann, James MUTTON’S wife. Also, the parents of James MUTTON and any history there is regarding this family. Also, when Ann MUTTON (nee ???) died. I found her as a Widow on the 1881 Census. I have found James’ death, but not sure which one is Ann. The story of the family follows. So far I have been able to establish that Isaiah MUTTON was born circa 1832 in Margate, Ringslow, Reg district Isle of Thanet in Kent, (I hope I have that in the correct order). His parents were James and Ann Mutton (nee ???). James MUTTON in the Censuses over the years has his trade as a either a Carpenter or Builder. The Muttons were a very large family, having at least 11 children. James and Ann’s son, Isaiah MUTTON was a crewman on board the “Hanover”, when she sailed from England and dropped anchor in Port Jackson, in Sydney, Australia on 28th Sept 1854. On the voyage out, it appears Isaiah made friends with four young sisters Emma 25, Ellen 20, Mary Ann 22 and Jane Symes 15 from Weymouth in Dorset. They were sailing to Sydney to seek employment as Domestic Servants. Isaiah left the ship and made his home in Sydney. The following year Isaiah married the youngest of the Symes sisters, Jane. They had six children, before Jane died at the young age of 32 in Dec 1874, maybe in childbirth. Not one to let the grass grow under his feet, Widower Isaiah MUTTON, married for the second time in 1874 to Mary Woods and another six children were born. The eldest of the second lot of children, Isaiah MUTTON Jnr.. born 1880, went on to have a wonderful career, being a Classics Master at King’s School in the outer western suburb of Parramatta in Sydney, a very exclusive College indeed. Isaiah “Jack” MUTTON married in 1907 to Mildred Alexis Goodall and they had four sons and one daughter. Each on of the sons went on to attend University and became doctors, two of them became surgeons. The only daughter Selma also went to University and became a renowned Journalist. Sadly, one of the brothers was shot to death by a deranged patient in his surgery in 1982 in Parramatta. So James MUTTON the Carpenter in Margate in Kent, would have been more than proud of his grandson Isaiah MUTTON Jnr., and his great grandchildren. Thank you in anticipation for your assistance. Cheers Janice Belrose – Sydney

Thanks Karen, We searched that and now realise it is little Norman Street Farm, Ide Hill, Kent. would that be part of the farm you mention is for sale or a separate farm alltogether. The picture of Little Norman Street Farm is exactly the one that I have got here in Australia, so now I have to find out if it was owned by George SEARS or maybe he was working on it. the newspaper article that I have on Ellen says that she went into service in the Manor house in her teens. on the marriage cert Ellen is listed as a domestic and Edward as a gardener. we know that they worked on a large estate and were made redundant and came to Australia with their first child. I am wondering if it would do any good if I wrote to the house and ask them if they know any of the history.
