    2. Elizabeth Dolan
    3. Hi All, I have just come across a entry for a lady in the Kent County Asylum at Maidstone for 1891 who I believe may be my long lost ancestor. C.N. aged 49 widow born Lambeth, London Now there is a Charlotte Nicholson aged 55 dying in Maidstone Sep 1897 and I am now wondering if the records for the Asylum are accessible for research and can any recommend a researcher that would be able to do this for me. I am trying to confirm if the C.N. in the 1891 is Charlotte Nicholson and secondly if the Charlotte Nicholson who died in 1897 was an impatient of the Asylum. Charlotte disappears in 1876 from Lambeth after placing all her children in the workhouse. Her husband had died in 1874. The oldest 2 girls ended up at the Royal Female Asylum at Beddington and the younger two girls at the Lambeth Work school. Her son George was old enough to go to work. I found a C.N. right age in the Wandsworth Asylum but no death to match and no further entries for later censuses. I am curious with the Maidstone entry because when her daughter died in 1918 her place of residence was Maidstone even though she was buried in Worthing along with her husband who was a Sompting man. Any advice would be appreciated. Regards Liz Dolan Manly Qld Aus

    2. Hi Sue Thanks for your helpful response - you have really stirred the pot ! LOL (Why is the PONSFORD's unmarried daughter names LYDE etc?) A long time ago (in my advanced senility, that is more than a fortnight) I have a memory of being told or reading about a death at sea for a James LYDE which may explain why no record can be found. I think you may well have found Sarah's christening record as 1861 census has Sarah LYDE living with her mother Maria MARSH (head of household) - also there is Fanny LYDE " granddaur" . I am sure there is a connection between Sarah MARSH/LYDE and William PARKER. In 1891 census William and Sarah are in Essex with a grandson , Charles KIMBER. I believe him to be the son of Charles KIMBER and Fanny LYDE married in Sheerness in 1874. (Charles junior was born in 1878 and I think there is a transcription error in 1891 census where he is recorded as 3 years of age - should it be 13?). According to IGI records Fanny Maria Sladden LYDE was born 19 Aug 1856 and baptized at St. Mary the Virgin Dover - mother Sarah Ann LYDE. Had James already died? Thanks again for you interest. 3. Sorry Damien I should have said that there are no Henry Moores/Moors at all in the right time frame and no other children with the right parents. It is possible that he was baptised in one the surrounding villages since people, when in a different county or country and asked where they were born, might well name the nearest town on the basis that the questioner would have heard of that. I can only see 8 Henry Moores of the right age at the 1861 census who were born in Kent. None of these have a father called Thomas. One has a mother Hannah but was born in Rye Sussex and is enumerated as Thomas W.
