Hi, In looking thru mom's old scrapbook I came across a wedding announcement for Ora Kent, daughter of Mrs. Mary Exum Kent of Jackson, TN will become the bride of Thomas Gill Mulherin of Memphis this morning at 10 o'clock at Jackson. 1936 - no date other than the 1936 written in. I have a John Christopher Kent b Sept 28, 1852 who married a Mary Exum. The dates don't match unless her dad was 84 when she got married! Has anyone run across any of these folks. The date was Sept. 3, 1883 and Witnesses to the marriage were M.J. Doty, Anna Doty, L. Doty, S.J. Doty. Am especially interested in Jane Deary who died August 24, 1898 and Charles buried her in a Potters Grave in Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau, WI Her parents are listed as Jacob and Marary Charles married three times

    3. Iva and the group; I was in contact with Jim Kent in 1997 about a Arron Kent line. He may now have some additional information by now. I also have Harriet as being Harriet Bell. Good possibility they had children other than Franklin and Walter Kent. The area seems correct, also since a number of distant relatives that I remember made their home around there.( Pensacola, Milton, Crestview) Dates also coincide with generational steps, but one never knows for sure with the lack of records keep in those days, especially the way some people moved around. Its certainly a lot easier with those families that established a homestead, family business, etc. such as my mother's family that was well established throughout Southern U.S. history. Well, I guess I'll pursue this a little bit more and see were it goes, probably will remain a mystery! Thanks again for your help. Descendants of Jacob KENT - 8 Sep 1998 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- Jacob KENT was born about 1764 in HOLLAND. He died after 1850 in Washtenaw Co., Michigan. Jacob was born in HOLLAND and came to Maryland as a child. He was employed for General Washington as a teamster during the Revolution. During the war of 1812 acted as a scout working as an independant under General Hull so does not show on the list of soldiers at the surrender of Detroit. he "..won many praises from the officers and soldiers for courage displayed on many a battlefield." He owned most if not all of the cattle in the Western States during that time, and fresh meat being scarce, sold all of his cattle to Congress. With this money, that he received four years after the sale, he moved to Canada and bought a large tract of land. He remained there until 1829, when he settled in Lodi Twp, Washtenaw County where he lived until his death. Source: History of Washtenaw County, Ann Arbor Township (1881). The 1850 Census for Freedom Twp., Washtenaw Co., Michigan shows Jacob Kent age 86, living alone next door to his son(grandson ?) Daniel. Jacob owns real estate valued at $1000.00 A Mary Kent is found in the 1850 Mortality Index for Washtenaw County, Michigan. She died at the age of 88 "old age", in Nov of 1850. She was born in New York. This may possibly be the wife of Jacob I. Jacob KENT1 was born in 1784 in Westmoreland, Pennsylvania. A. Daniel KENT1,2,3,4 was born about 1805 in Dayton, Ohio. Daniel was born in Dayton, Ohio, but grew to manhood in Canada. Daniel and his family came to Washtenaw County, Michigan in July of 1832. In 1834, Daniel entered some land near Lodi twp on the old "Chicago Turnpike" road. He built a tavern, and as immigration was very heavy for a few years, business prospered, and he gained quite a competency from his farm and tavern. Age 86 years. Nina Kent was born February 6, 1906 to Marshall and Helen Kent in Beaverton, Michigan. She married Lloyd Erskine on July 5, 1924. He died January 2, 1973. They owned and operated a farm in Fremont Township all of their married lives. Mrs. Erskine was a member of the Nelson United Methodist Church and its Women's Society. Surviving are four son, one daughter and their spouses. Rolland and Dorothy Erskine, Duane and Mary Jane Erskine, all of Hemlock; Wesely and Lorraine Erskine, Elkhorn, Wis.; Harold and Marlyn Erskine, Grand Rapids, Mich.; Dolores and Duane Aelick, Brownstown, Ind.; 18 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; a brother, Millard Kent and a sister, Evelyn Miller; several nieces and nephews.
