KENT Researchers - I am desperately looking for someone who has information on a Jacob KENT. Jacob was born in HOLLAND and came to Maryland as a child. He was employed for General Washington as a teamster during the Revolution. During the war of 1812 acted as a scout working as an independant under General Hull so does not show on the list of soldiers at the surrender of Detroit. he "..won many praises from the officers and soldiers for courage displayed on many a battlefield." He owned most if not all of the cattle in the Western States during that time, and fresh meat being scarce, sold all of his cattle to Congress. With this money, that he received four years after the sale, he moved to Canada and bought a large tract of land. He remained there until 1829, when he settled in Lodi Twp, Washtenaw County, Michigan, where he lived until his death. Jacob had a son, also Jacob who was boon in Westmoreland, Pennsylvania. Barbara, My Henrys father was William Kent, born about 1806 in Georgia according to the Cobb County Ga census in 1850. His wifes name was Martha, born about 1810 in Ga. She may have been Martha Hopkins?, as a William Kent married Martha Hopkins, the right place and time. Children listed were, William R. age 18 Jackson age 16 Francis age 14 Henry age 12 John H age 9 Sarah age 7 Martha age 5 Mary age 1 ages were on the 1850 census. I can go no further back so far. I have: Clementine KENT b 18 Sept 1853 or 13 May 1849, I show in Randolf Co, AL, & Cleburne Co, AL....also possibly lived in MS & GA. Married to Burrell S. MESSER 28 Jan 1873. Her father was possibly a Brll or Ed KENT. All of this information came from her husbands pension records...so I'm not sure how accurate it is. And that's ALL the information I have. Robert: I have Theodore b. 1792, 6th child of Dan (my ggggrandfathr) and Abagail (Sykes) Kent. Abagail was Dan's first wife & Theodore was their last & 6th child to be born. Betsy Griswold was Dan's second wife, and they had 7 children together, one of which was Cephas Henry, my gggrandfathr. This information was obtained from our family Bible and Briggs, which was 'compiled' by William Beckwith Kent, my cousin & Dan's ggrandson, who I am in contact with quite often.
