Fellow Kemp Researchers, I am trying to find any biographical information on Edgar T. Kemp who graduated from Furman University in about 1870 and taught in the Greenville area (possibly prof. of Latin and Greek) until about 1890 when he moved to Texas. He is reported to have been "a drummer boy" in the C.S.A and later rose through the enlisted ranks to the rank of Major. He was a member of the 5th South Carolina Battalion (but I don't know the dates). I believe his mother was Hannah Kemp (widow in 1860 census) or she was his grandmother. ANY info on this Kemp family or suggestions to find substantiate his parentage will be greatly appreciated. Best wishes, Ron English, Killeen,TX
