I've been attempting to determine the origins of a fairly large Kemp family in Harpswell, Cumberland County, Maine. Timothy Kemp is found in Harpswell, along with his wife, Hannah Snow, in the mid-1790's. Estimated date of birth for Timothy would be about 1775. Further research has shown that a Silas Kemp was listed as being "driven from Harpswell" by the British in July 1777. It is thought, but not proven, that this Silas Kemp was born 11 Nov 1741 in Groton, Middlesex County, Mass., the son of Hezekiah Kemp. Anyone having information on either Timothy or Silas Kemp, please let me know. I'm always glad to share what I have.
