Dear all on the KEMP mailing list, I am trying to find an ancestor of mine who is the father of a Joseph William Kemp. The exact name I don't know. Joseph's father was in the police in the city of Hull, Yorkshire, England and drowned in 1879 or 1880. Joseph's mother-in-law was Mary Binnie, and I am interested in knowing more about her too. Joseph had 5 siblings, two of whom were named Florence and Edith. Florence became Mrs Florence Wyvill of Bridlington and Edith became Mrs Edith Smith of New Zealand. Any information about any of the other siblings would fill a huge gap in the family tree. Joseph achieved some standing in life becoming the Minister at Charlotte Chapel, Edinburgh, then went on to become the Minister of two churches in New York city, then went to Auckland New Zealand where he was the minister of the Auckland Baptist Tabernacle. Joseph has always been regarded as an "orphan", but his father died when he was 7 and his mother when he was 9, so there must be some record of him somewhere. Grateful for any assistance. Hugh Kemp.
