My father, Joseph Bartley Burch, was adopted by George Washington and Mary Sherrin Burch in 1938. The only information we have been able to find to date is that his name on the adoption papers was "Baby Kemp" .... birth date November 12 1936. He was adopted in 1938, at the age of 2 years, in the state of North Carolina. We have found cousins of my father in the Burch family who may be knowledgeable of the circumstances of the adoption, but they have refused to give any information.
