This is based on his age, occupations of those involved & the addresses found on 1841/1851 censuses. If this sounds right then it may be worthwhile checking out but please don't take this as gospel as I haven't viewed any primary sources for this. Can I ask where this William b1833 Skene who married Mary Thomson was in 1851 & subsequently as I couldn't find him on the census transcription?
