Alexander is my 3rd gr grandfather. 1791 "KEMP, Alexander, gentleman's servant in St. Andrew p., and Jean, same p., d. of deceased James Blackie, overseer at Rosewell, p. of Laswade, 12 Jan 1791" (Source: Entry in Edinburgh Marriage Register 1595-1700: 1751-1800 from www.scotsfind.org) "Alexander Kemp Gent's Servant in St Andrew Kirk Parish & Jean Blackie in Same Parish Daug'r of the Deceas'd James Blackie late Overseer at Rosewell in the Parish of Laswade" (Source: Copy of an entry of Marriage in Old Parochial Register) It appears that Rosewell was a coal mining area & so James Blackie was probably an overseer at a coal mine. (Author note) Children - all baptized Edinburgh parish - have all the OPR entries 1. Marion b2/9/1791 (maybe married Peter Scott 7/1/1837 Edin p) 2. Peter b10/11/1793 3. James 16/10/1795 4. William b8/1/1798 married Jean Christie bet. 1820-1835 & died 12/12/1860 Locherlour Farm, Monzievaird & Strowan, Perthshire 5. Jean b18/7/1800 6. Mary b26/11/1802 1809 "Death/Burial 8th Dec 1809 Allex Kemp from Canon Mills on Spokes Lys 7ft N E from George Allans stone - aged 45 years - Decline" (OPR Death extract for St Cuthberts, Edinburgh City) cf Jean Blackie's place of burial as it is the same. 1809 "Death/Burial 4/08/1809 Jean Blackie spouse of Allex Kemp from Canonmills on Spokes Lys 7ft N E from George Allans stone - aged 40 years - Dropsie" (OPR Death extract for St Cuthberts, Edinburgh City) The eldest of Alexander's & Jean's children, if they all survived, would have been only 18yo with the youngest being only 7yo at the time of the deaths of Alexander & Jean. A search for deaths in St Cuthbert's for the period 1790 - 1812 indicates no obvious entries for these children - no images bought. Who brought up these children & where might they be found for their subsequent marriages/census etc.? (Author note) As you can see I haven't been able to trace most of the children either & they haven't turned up on any census that I can see. If you have any ideas or locate any of them I'd really appreciate it. JudyG Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
