Grete, 88, Muscatine, died Friday, July 4, 2003, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Services are 2 p.m. today at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. The Rev. Gerry Kahler will officiate. Pallbearers are Peter Allinger, Kenneth Leach, Richard Leach, Dean Hetzler, Jerry Burmeister and Bill Nus. Honorary pallbearers are Wayne Mittman, James Forgey, Ralph Fromer and Raymond Fromer. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery. After the burial, a luncheon will be held at the Moose Lodge, Muscatine. Visitation was 3-7 p.m. Sunday, July 6, with a 7 p.m. Women of the Moose service. Memorials may be made to Sweetland United Methodist Church. Mrs. Grete was born on Aug. 10, 1914, in Oakville, the daughter of Frank W. and Lottie Marie Roberts Kemp. She married Orville G. Grete on Sept. 20, 1933, in Davenport. He preceded her in death in 1974. She was a member of Sweetland United Methodist Church, Muscatine, for more than 50 years. She was a member of the Muscatine Chapter of the Women of the Moose No. 447 for more than 25 years. She and her husband farmed in Sweetland Township for more than 41 years. She enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, playing cards and working on crossword puzzles. She also loved helping others through volunteering and spending time with friends. But most of all, she loved her family. Survivors include a son, Gary Grete and his wife, Marlys, of Muscatine; a grandson, Brian Grete and his wife, Kathy, of Cedar Falls; a granddaughter, Cheryl Geurts and her husband, Martin, of Indianola; and two great-grandchildren, Madison and Collin Geurts.
