She was born in IA & both of her parents in IL. (Illinois > Cook > Chicago Ward 2 > District 179 > Page 26). The 1920 census (Illinois > DeKalb > DeKalb Ward 1 > District 20 > Page 1) shows she is married to Herbert L Carter with daughters Mary Ley & Lura L. They were living at 129 Lineolu Highway in De Kalb. The 1930 census (Illinois > Cook > Chicago (Districts 1751-1976) > District 1816 > Page 75) just shows her (shows that she is divorced)& her daughters at 4241 Sheridan Rd in Ward 48, Chicago. The 1940 census will be out next year. The 1920 census also show that Herbert was from NC worked as a barber in a barbershop & he owned the place they were living in.
