Author: k_courts Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.kemp/1769/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am searching for the Kemp family of my great great grandmother, Sarah Lettia Kemp, who was born on the date of January 1, 1834, and SArah Lettia Kemp was married in Virginia on the date of February 1, 1849 to George Nicholas Fitzhugh, who was the son of Henry and Heneritte Fitzhugh of Fenton, Virginia, Sarah Lettia Kemp and her husband, George Nicholas Fitzhugh became parents of an only daughter, Kate Fitzhugh, and Kate Fitzhugh was born on the date of December 1, 1853 at Ravensworth, Virginia, and I think that Ravensworth, Va is now situated in that part of the State of Virginia that became West Virginia, and Sarah Lettia Kemp Fitzhugh died in New Iberia, Louisiana on the date of DEcember 7, 1925, at Ravensworth Plantation in New IBeria, Louisiana, and she is buried in Rosehill Cemetery in New Iberia, La. Sarah Lettia Kemp and her husband, George Nicholas Fitzhugh, were the parents of one daughter, Kate Fitzhugh, who was born in the year of 1853 After the close of the C! ivil War, George Nicholas Fitzhugh and his wife, Sarah Lettia Kemp Fitzhugh, moved from the State of West Virginia to New Iberia, La., where they first settled at St. Martinville, La., and then later they moved to the town of New IBeria, La., and resided on East Main Street in the town of New IBeria, and then in the fall of the year of 1918, Sarah Lettia Kemp Fitzhugh purchased a portion of a sugar plantation, and she was also one of the owners of a colonized sugar plantation, called Bayside, near Jeanerette, La. While resding in the town of New Iberia, La. after the close of the Civil War, Sarah Lettia Kemp Fitzhugh became a very wealthy businesswoman and engaged in many business ventures. I do not know who the parents of Sarah Lettia Kemp were but it is possible that they could be from Ohio, Kentucky, or West Virginia, nor the names of any siblings, any information would be greatly appreciated, thank you very much.
