Author: k_courts Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.kemp/1770/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My great great grandmother was Sarah Lettia Kemp, who was born on the date of January 1, 1834, she was married on the date of February 1, 1849 to George Nicholas Fitzhugh in Virginia, and she died at New Iberia, Louisiana on the date of December 7, 1925 and she is buried besides her husband, George Nicholas Fitzhugh, in Rosehill Cemetery. Sarah Lettia Kemp Fitzhugh and her husband, George Nicholas Fitzhugh, were the parents of one daughter, Katherine Fitzhugh, who was called, "Kate" and Katherine Fitzhugh was born on the date of December 1, 1853 at Ravensworth, Virginia. After the close of the Civil War, Sarah Lettia Kemp Fitzhugh and her husband, George Nicholas Fitzhugh, and their daughter, Kate, along with the brother in law of Sarah Lettia Kemp Fitzhugh, Theodorick Fitzhugh and his family moved to Louisiana, where they first settled in St. Martinville, La. then removed to New Iberia, La. Sarah Lettia Kemp had a sister, who was named Mary V. Kemp, and Mary V. Kemp was married on the date of November 12, 1856 to Abram B. Samuels, who was the son of Abraham and Hannah Samuels. Abram Samuels worked as a carpenter. It is believed that Sarah Lettia Kemp and her sister, Mary V. Kemp, were the daughters of Daniel L. Kemp and his wife, Lettia, who settled in Ohio.
