Hello, Kemp researchers. The Scottish Kemps being discussed are not mine but I do have another line which hasn't been put out there for a long time. My line has these: Helen BLACK KEMP was born June 18, 1825 in Methven, just outside of Perth, in Scotland. In 1866 she married Joseph Collings Gadd II, and English immigrant whom she met in Racine County Wisconsin. She died on May 11, 1884 at their farm near Lebanon, Missouri. Helen's father was Andrew KEMP who was born in 1792 in the "West Half" District of Methven, Perthshire, Scotland. Andrew was a stonemason. Helen's mother was Lisie (Isabella) BLACK who was born in Scotland in 1796. These folks seem to have been originally from the north but when the clan system broke down under English rule, many were forced of their lands and their crofts because the English system was based on tax money rather than service to the clan. Luckily, Andrew had a good trade and probably found ample work in Perth until his family could escape to better conditions on the American frontier. I have more information and will be happy to share if I have any kuzzins out there. Good luck in your research! Ross Malone rmalone@fidnet.com
