This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Kemp, Frith, Dwyer Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/EZm.2ACIB/1534 Message Board Post: There are two marriages for William Kemps in the Extracted Irish Records on Ancestry.com: 1. William Kemp married Gertrude Walton in 1781 in the Diocese of Cork & Ross, County Cork, Ireland. 2. William Kemp married Jane Frith in 1793 in the Diocese of Cork & Ross, County Cork, Ireland.* *Family information says that William and Jane were married on 04 Jun 1793 in St. Peter’s Church (Church of Ireland) in Cork city, County Cork by the Rev. Thomas Spead Campion. The first of their 7 children was born in 1794 in the city of Cork. William died in 1813 (we have no birth date or place for him) and Jane came to Baltimore, MD with her 4 remaining sons in 1819. Are these two William Kemps related? A will found in Irish records indicate that they probably aren’t the same person: it was proved in May 1796 for William Forster Kemp (Cork, Grocer). Heirs were his father, Forster Kemp; wife, Gertrude*; brother , Jeremiah; sister, Mary Warner and her husband, Arthur Warner. No children were listed as heirs. This would most likely be the William Kemp in the 1787 city directory. Marriage Records in Diocese of Cork and Ross: Forster Kemp md Elizabeth Forster in 1752 Forster Kemp md Sarah Parkinson in 1773 *William Kemp md Gertrude Warren in 1781 (another record lists her as Gertrude Walton) Jeremiah Kemp md Catherine Hawkes in 1796 1787 Cork city directory only lists one William Kemp: Grocer & Tea Dealer, South Main St. 1805 directory: William Kemp: Woolen Draper, North Main St. 1809 directory: William Kemp: Woolen Draper, South Main St. My William is believed to be the Woolen Draper. Does anyone have William and Gertrude in their family tree? What church were they married in? Teresa
