William Kemp died 03 Mar 1813 in Ireland. Jane Frith was born abt. 1769 in Cork and died 31 Dec 1855 in Baltimore, MD. They were married 04 Jun 1793 at St. Peter’s Church (Church of Ireland), Cork city, County Cork, Ireland. Jane Frith Kemp came with her 4 remaining sons to Baltimore, MD in 1819. A researcher in Ireland suggested that her parents were probably Simon Frith and Elizabeth Bible. Diocese of Cork & Ross records show the marriage of Simon Frith and Elizabeth Bible in 1764. William and Jane’s children were all born in the city of Cork: 1. William B., b.07 Jul 1794; d.04 Aug 1817 in Ireland. 2. Robert Simon, b.03 Sep 1795; d.unknown date in Ireland. 3. Richard Sampson, b.07 May 1797; d.13 Oct 1889 in Baltimore, MD; married Grace Smith in Cork, 1818; children born in Baltimore, MD: William, b.abt. 1821; Thomas, b.Oct 1825; Anne Maria, b.Dec 1827; Richard Simon, b.Nov 1829; Mary Ann, b.Mar 1832, who married James Adams; Richard Sampson Jr., b.Nov 1834; Charles T., b.abt 1836. Richard was a school teacher at St. Peter’s Episcopal School. 4. SIMON, b.08 Aug 1799; d.Jul 1865 in Talbot Co., MD; married Ellen Agnes Dwyer 13 Sep 1823 in “Old St. Peter’s” Catholic church, Baltimore; children born Baltimore: Mary Ann, b.21 Nov 1824, d.31 Dec 1839; Jane Barbara, b.25 Nov 1826, d.unk, md John Edward Hooper 20 Oct 1847; William J., b.abt 1828; Richard Crysostom, b.abt 1831, d.Mar 1893, md Mary Jane Adams 20 Nov 1856; Simon Ignatius, b.29 Feb 1832, d.10 Feb 1914; md Maria Louisa Dorsey 16 Nov 1865; Ellen A., b.abt 1834; Ann E., b.abt 1836. 5. Eliza, b.Feb 1802, d.28 May 1802, Ireland 6. Jane Nassow(?), b.01 Jul 1803, d.17 Feb 1813, Ireland 7. Thomas, b.15 Apr 1805, d.09 Apr 1870, California. I have been unable to find any information on Thomas except that he was one of the 4 sons who came to MD with his mother and brothers in 1819. 8. John Frith, b.07 May 1807, d.bet. 1870-1880 Talbot Co., MD; md Margaret Pritchard 07 May 1873 in Baltimore, no children. He was a school teacher in Trappe, Talbot Co. MD. Names, birth dates and death dates of William and Jane’s children were taken from a sheet of paper with the letterhead of the company in Baltimore that one of William’s grandsons, Simon Ignatius, owned for many years. Names of grandchildren have been taken from census records or information from other family researchers. I also have the transcript of a letter that a gggrandson wrote in 1938. In it he says that his deceased father had once possessed family information which said that “William Kemp’s family were Loyalists during the American Revolution and that a Robert Kemp, on or about the year 1760, left the colonies and returned to Yorkshire, England, from whence this branch of the family originated, afterwards going to Cork, Ireland, where this William Kemp, my ancestor, married Jane Frith on June 4th, 1793.” According to the above referenced letter, our William Kemp was a Woolen Draper in Cork city. Cork city directories list: 1805: William Kemp, Woolen Draper, North Main St. 1809: “ “ “ “ South Main St. There was a William Kemp, son of William Kemp and Jane Martin, who was baptized in Rathcooney Parish of County Cork in 1757. LDS records (IGI) list their marriage as “abt. 1719” (38 yrs in between!). It has been suggested that this could be our William, but, if so, he would (probably) have already been born by the time the above mentioned Robert Kemp “left the colonies and returned to Yorkshire”. How likely is that? The fact that our William and Jane didn’t incorporate the name “Martin” into any of their children’s names also makes me wonder about this connection. I would appreciate any additional information on these family members. Thanks, Teresa
