My research suggests Martha PEOPLES may have been the widow of Hector PEOPLES. Her maiden name was Martha "Patsy" LETT. Patsy PEOPLES appears in the 1830 Jennings county, Indiana census as head of household with one son under 5 and a daughter 10-15. Hector Peoples estate records name his son as John Francis PEOPLES. They also suggest his daughter may well have been the Elizabeth PEOPLES who married Greenville WINSCOTT on 7 Oct 1835. Winscot is named as an heir by marriage. I have not found additional information on the daughter, but a John PEOPLES appears on the 1880 census of Tipton county, IN (page 71B) in the household of the much younger Joseph G & Victoria KEMP. The PEOPLES male is listed as a widower, and as a person not related to the head of household. The age of 54 gives him a birthdate of about 1826, which matches well to be Patsy Lett People's son. Some other members of her family moved from Jennings county to Tipton, as well. Had John PEOPLES been married to a KEMP female? Was Victoria a step-daughter?
