    1. ABEL W. KEMP, Canada to IL to WI
    2. Hello List, I joined this list today. Am researching ABEL W. KEMP, born about 1801-1802 in Massachusetts and died after the 1880 census. In 1880 he is 77 years old & living with a married daughter, Mary Simpson, in Sparta, Monroe County, Wisconsin. So far, other than Mary, I've located a son, James C. Kemp, born about 1831 in Canada. He may have been in either Company L, 2 ILL Cavalry as a Private, or Company D, 27 ILL Cavalry as a Private, during the Civil War. Abel W. Kemp was married to a lady named SARAH, born about 1806 in NY. She may have died inbetween the 1870 & 1880 census, probably in Sparta, WI. The 1850 census lists him living in Mason County, IL: Home in 1850 (City,County,State): Not Stated, Mason, Illinois Abel W. Kemp, 48, farmer Sarah, 43 James 21 Daniel, 19 Mary Eliza, 17, (1833) Sarah Ann, 9 N I., 7, (or, N. J.) Frances G., 4 Mary M. Fisher, 3 (may be child of Austin G. Fisher & Elizabeth Kemp Fisher. Maybe Elizabeth is older daughter of Abel & Sarah Kemp.) & nearby: James C. Kemp, Havana, Mason, IL, born 1831, Canada The KEMP line seems to intertwine with the COVINGTON & MITCHELL & HENNINGER lines. Those same lines intertwine my FOSTER line. My great-great-grandfather, ORRIN E. FOSTER, traveled from Upper Canada in about 1835 to Havana, IL, with families of: KEMP, ROCKWELL & ADAMS. Thank you, Karen Foster Montgomery
