RAYMOND CHRISTOPHER2 KEMP, b. September 19, 1906, 894 N. Farson St., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; d. June 03, 1988, Barrington, New Jersey 08007. Generation No. 2 2. RAYMOND CHRISTOPHER2 KEMP (JOSEPH VERNON1) was born September 19, 1906 in 894 N. Farson St., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and died June 03, 1988 in Barrington, New Jersey 08007. He married ELLEN R. SOMMERS, daughter of JOHN SOMMERS and SARAH BROGAN. She was born September 22, 1906 in Camden, NJ, and died November 01, 1964 in Barrington, New Jersey. Notes for RAYMOND CHRISTOPHER KEMP: SSDI Search gives SSN 147-03-0886 Issued in NJ before 1951 b. 19 Sept 1905, d. 3 Jun 1988 Barrington, NJ 08007 Date of Birth, on SSN application reads, date of birth = September 19, 1906... not 1905.- VES June 8, 1988 is death date, according to "New St. Mary's Church", wherein Raymond is buried. Grave 6 Kemp lot. WWI Here is Raymond's original SSN application, as I transcribe it: SSN147-03-0886 Raymond Christopher Kemp 1014 White Horse Pike Oaklyn, New Jersey Age at last birthday: 30 Date of Birth: September 19, 1906 Place of Birth: 894 N. Farson St. Phila, PA Father: Joseph Vernon Kemp Mother: Julia Johnson Application Date: December 2nd 1936 First worked for Joseph Patrick Cunningham. Here is a fantastic letter, and all true, that I got the night I got the above SSN info... -VES Vince: Joseph Patrick Cunningham was an officer in the Cunningham Piano Co. and Farson Street was in West Philadelphia, flanking 50th Street, right near the piano company. If Raymond later worked for a furniture store, then, in all likelihood he worked for Cunningham as a cabinetmaker, or, possibly, as a finisher. Hope this helps! Best, Paul Schopp [email protected] The above letter may even explain how Uncle Raymond met his wife to be, since my father, Vincent Depaul Summers, Ellen R. Sommers' brother, married Raymond. My dad for a time worked for Cunningham.- VES ----- A Private Communication on May 27, 1999 from Jim Ryan, who once owned the building between Uncle Raymond's "shack" and Victor's liquor store: The property may have been the one two doors away from Victors, as it is a small building with a large yard. That building still stands. ----- That same day, Jim Ryan also posted: I was born &raised in West Philly. Farson is a tiny street, lying between 50th& 51st streets. From Thompson St. to Kershaw St. It may be the 800 bl north. It's near 50th & Parkside. The only business I can remember at 50th & Pks., would be a coal & ice yard, it delivered to the local neighborhood. [[email protected]] The correct name of the street is Farson and it is in West Philadelphia near Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church. Also adjacent to the Old Cathedral Cemetery.- Sophia Crocker: [email protected] Notes for ELLEN R. SOMMERS: A wonderfully kind, plump, black-haired woman. She gave me a special gift of a very thick Van Nostrand Science Book as a kid. Once my mother, Adele Summers, insisted we stop and buy a lobster for her, while we were at the shore, since we knew she didn't have long to live. Vincent E. Summers 6-30-98 SSN 147-03-886 (missing a digit?) This number is listed by the funeral director. If you put a 0 in front of the 886, you get Raymond's SSN! It appears she did not have her own number.
