James Foster adopted the 3 children, they were brother and sisters. He married Polly Hicks. No children, married Lucinda, no children. Just raised these 3 children. We have the family bible which belonged to Deborah Edwards wife of James Harrison Foster. Pictures intact. Metal pictures. We have had pictures made from them. We followed the Edwards line back. Now working on Foster back. Samuel W. Kemp showes his mother is Janette Gilles, who died 1850 -1852 Samuel Sr. married Sophrania Smith in Illinois. Find on Illinois marriage data base for 1852 De Kalb. Illinois. In the Bible is a picture of Rena Butler and Mrs. Kemp and 5 children. I haven't found Rena Butler since 1880 census.

It shows another link to more descendants for those of us from the "Foster/Kemp" line. Do you know where the de Love name came from? It was picked up as a favorite and used for descendants of Mary without us knowing the exact origin. I don't know where Mabel is buried. I will see if I have an accurate source and enter it correctly. I will also look into the Janette Gillies connection. It is new to me.

I didn't know Julia Ann Foster had a brother named James. I have 1) Mary Ann which is well documented as the marriage to Zadock Titus, 2) John H. who married Deborah and this is all we know, 3) Julia Ann (our line who married 3 times and had children by William H Butler). Could I please know more about a brother named James and his descendants?
Hello Kemp Watchers, Is anyone on this list interested in the KEMP family who came to VA in the 1600's, and their ancestors back in England. If so, I have much Info., far back I'd be happy to share. Maybe you have a little more Info. on the family in america. My last KEMP was Anne, daughter of Edmund the immigrant, m. Philip HUNLEY (HUNDLEY), Jr. They lived in Kingstton Parish, Gloucester, had several children. Charles was my ancestor. He m. Anne MOTLEY, and they bought land in Amelia County. In fact, their home is still lived in, and looks very much the same. Does any of this sound familiar? Thanks, Betty Sullivan 232 E. Church St. Kewanee, IL 61443 bettysul@kewanee.com

It will tell you about Samuel and his wife Janette( not Julia) Gillies. I have it pretty well documented. It also lists Janettes parents. Hope this helps you. The 1850 Dupage Co, Ill. census lists this info, but it is under Samuel KENT not Kemp.

I hope this answers some of your questions. Yes I have a photo of Samuel Sr.s grave that I got off internet. I didn'tn know about Samuel being married before Orpha. As for Samuel and Sophronia, all of his children were born before he married Sophronia. Jennette Gillies family came from Scotland to Lanark, Canada.
I am a interested in this message as there is a slight familiarity in it. Do you know where your Kemps originated from? My Kemp families came from County Cavan Ireland and they had a habit of marrying cousins. I also am a double Kemp though my aunt assured me that they were not related. ?? So far I haven't found a connection but it is only a matter of time....<grin> You don't say where your Kemp family came from originally. I know that there were heaps of Kemps in USA, and I know that there were Irish Kemps who migrated there but not enough to have been the origins of all the American/Canadian Kemps! I have a Thomas Kemp in my 'maternal' Kemps and he was born in Cavan in 1846 son of Charles and Mary Kemp. So He did marry Sophronia after Jeanette. I have been researching his Son. Samuel W. Kemp that married Orpha Butler on the 14 October 1864 in Harrison Co., Iowa near Dunlap. Samuel Sr. Kemp was on the census in Mantano, shelby, Iowa with Sophronia. no children with them. Samuel W. Kemp Sr was born in 1796 Wales and died 21 September 1869 and buried at Monteno Cemetery, Shelby, Iowa. Broken Stone, Row 8, marker 8. There is a picture of the stone in the Shelby co. Gen web.
Hi Judy, Your email attracted my attention because I have the same first names in my Kemps also who have been found in Co. Cavan in Ireland so far. However a fellow Kemp researcher Tom Jay Kemp feels sure that our Kemps will have originated in the Midlothian area. Funnily enough a genie cousin and I have been working on this tree together and he lives in Edinburgh! I think he would be thrilled to find that he was living on our ancestors home turf. Do you know if any of the children/grandchildren of your William and Alexander ever moved to and from Ireland??
