    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: KEMP, WATKINS, LLEWELLEYN, LLEWELLIN, WALKINS Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/EZm.2ACIB/1466 Message Board Post: I am looking for info on the KEMP families of the Shamokin Twp., Northumberland Co., PA area in the later 1800's and 1900's. A distant ancestor, would have been a ggg aunt, was Jemima or Jennie or Guermina (WATKINS) KEMP. The US CENSUSES had different spellings for her name. I don't know the first name of her husband, could have been William or John. Her children I have seen listed were John H. <1870>, Martha A. <1876>, and Roda or Rhoda <1878> all PA. Jemima WATKINS was the daughter of William and Charlotte WATKINS, b. in WALES and first living in Banks Twp., Carbon Co., PA. She moved with her mother and siblings to Hazle Twp., Luzerne Co., PA before 1860. Her mother had remarried to a John LLEWELLEYN or LLEWELLIN. Her siblings were: Elizabeth, Mary A., John, William, Hannah, and or Margaret, and Henry "Harry" WATKINS. If trying to find them on the Ancestry.com Census transcriptions, you may have to look under the last name WALKINS on some of the US CENSUS. But it was WATKINS.

She has historically been placed as the daughter of Harry Kemp and Sarah Collins in Warbleton because her marriage lists her as "of Warbleton" but her christening is not there. Harry and Sarah Kemp christened all their other children so I have a hard time believing that they would not christen Mary if she was there child. I am looking for an actual christening and other possibility for parentage. Beverly

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EZm.2ACIB/382.383.444.1 Message Board Post: Hi. I am trying to find more information on my Great Grandfather. His name was James Marion Kemp. He was born in Mississippi around 1854. His family later lived in Tennessee. In the 1870s he and a brother John lived in Arkansas County AR according to the 1880 census. James Marion Kemp was married to Francis Elizabeth Kennedy and their first born son was named Albert M. Kemp (I don't believe he lived to be very old). Since some of the family names are similar (Marion and Albert), I was wondering if there was some connection between our lines. I know James Marion Kemp had a brother called Bud and a sister called Hildie in addition to the brother named John. Although my Grandfather said his James Marion Kemp had grown up in Adamsville, TN, he also mentioned traveling frequently to Memphis and seemed to have connections there, too. I know his brother John had a saw mill and his son James, my grandfather, worked for the railroad. Please let me know if you see any possi! ble connections. Thanks.

We are located near Toronto, Ontario, Canada and are from British Kemps. My husband's father emmigrated to Canada from Berkshire in the 1950's. My husband was an only child and unfortunately both his parents died before he was 26 years old. My husband John and I and our three girls Sarah, Kaitlyn and Emma are the only Kemps from this family we know to be in North America. I am going to England in March on business and will be visiting the family. I am trying to determine which line we are from. I have heard there is a connection to the Archbishop of Canterbury. We have many rather distinguished Kemps in this family for example our Uncle John who currently resides in Ashford was a distinguished military officer granted the Member of the British Empire. I am very keen to determine which line we come from. Thanks for responding.
