Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/EZm.2ACIB/1331.2.1 Message Board Post: No, I think we probably have two different Thomas Kemps here but I'm not ruling anything out at this time. I'm still digging as I have no date or place of death for my Thomas. I do know that he left Baltimore with his two daughters 30 (my ggrandmother) and his newborn daughter not long after his wife's death in childbirth which would have been around 1834. He went to the Nashville, TN area as Margaret's sister and her husband who was a doctor lived there and she took care of the two girls. Margaret's maiden name was Campbell, she was the widow Harris when she married Thomas Kemp. Thomas lived in the Clarksville, TN area near Nashville and census records show him there. He remarried (young woman named Orr) and had a son, William T. Kemp. Census records show him, his new wife, his young son and his two daughters living in the Clarksville TN area in, I believe, 1840. He lost that wife to what we think was cholera. He then left Tennessee, his first wife's sister took care of! the two girls and his second wife's brother and his wife took care of the small boy. The girls went to an Episcopal boarding school in Columbia, Tennessee and the boy was raised in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee - only 15 or 20 miles from Columbia. We know that Thomas Kemp was in Galveston some years later and met with his son when the son was grown - which would make it somewhere after the Civil War. The son remained in Texas, married and had a family there. The daughters remained in the Middle Tennessee area - the older daughter was my ggrandmother and married William Perry and both are buried at Rose Hill in Columbia. The younger daughter married a doctor in Nashville. St. Peter's in Baltimore seems to be more than a coincidence though - will try to check it out more thoroughly. Thanks for the information. My interest is not only in the fact that he is an ancestor of mine but that he is a double ancestor - the son of his daughter married the daughter of his son so he is my double gggrandfather. (He was the grandfather of both but they had different grandmothers).

Surnames: Kemp, Frith, Dwyer Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/EZm.2ACIB/1331.2 Message Board Post: Well, I had thought that the Thomas Kemp who married Margaret Harris might belong to me. I descend from William Kemp who married Jane Frith on June 4, 1793 in St. Peter's Church (Church of Ireland) in the city of Cork, County Cork, Ireland. William died Mar 3, 1813 in Ireland. Jane came with 4 of her sons directly from Ireland to Baltimore in 1819. Their children were: 1. William R., b.07 Jul 1794, d.04 Aug 1817, Ireland 2. Robert Simon, b.03 Sep 1795, d.unk, Ireland 3. Richard Sampson, b.07 May 1797, d.13 Oct 1889 in Baltimore, MD; md Grace Smith in Cork in 1818 4. (*1)Simon, b.08 Aug 1799, d.Jul 1865 in Talbot Co.,MD; md Ellen Agnes Dwyer 13 Sep 1823 in Baltimore, MD 5. Eliza, b.Feb 1802, d.28 May 1802, Ireland 6. Jane Nasson(/w), b.01 Jul 1803, d.17 Feb 1813, Ireland 7. (*2)Thomas, b.15 Apr 1805, d. 09 Apr 1870, California 8. John Frith, b.07 May 1807, d.bet. 1870-1880 in Talbot Co., MD; md Margaret Pritchard 1873, Baltimore, MD This family information came from a copy of a page from an "old Bible, 1782". It was on the letterhead of one of William & Jane's grandsons (son of Simon) who owned that particular company in Baltimore for many years. There are two marriages shown for a William Kemp in Cork city. One is for a William who married Gertrude Walton in 1781 and the other is that of my William and Jane Frith. I don't have a birth date for my William so don't know if both of these are the same person. The fact that the Bible containing our Kemp family was dated 1782 makes me wonder if my William might have been married twice - maybe bought the Bible to record his family with Gertrude, then remarried after her death - but the grandson only copied the names and dates for his own grandparents. (*1) Simon is my ancestor. (*2) I have no other information on "my" Thomas. I found the record of his marriage to Margaret Harris and that of the baptisms of his two daughters in St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Baltimore but have been unable to find a Thomas Kemp in any Maryland census records that seemed to be of the correct age and marital status. I don't know if the "died in California in 1870" is correct. Baltimore city directories show that his brother, Richard Sampson Kemp, taught at St. Peter's School. Thomas is not listed in the directories in Baltimore. If you think our Thomas Kemps might be one and the same, I would be very interested in having his family information. Teresa Purvis

I have references to them as both camp & kemp, but can't find to many more solid details. The details that i have are as follows : 1) Sarah Camp, born approx 1856 in Ingatestone, essex. On my great grand mothers birth certificate, and her 2 marrage certificates she is named as Camp. However the first marriage certificate (1874) her father is listed as George Camp, but the second (1880) he is listed as George Kemp. I can't find an entry for Sarah Camp in the 1861 census, but i can find a Sarah Kemp, who matchs up nicely with a father George. 2) William Camp, b 1835 approx in Navestock, Essex. through the birth certificate of his son John Camp i have his name as Camp, but in the 1851 census i have both of them listed as Kemp. If anybody has came across these people before in there reserch and has any more details and is will to share it i would be most greatfull. Thanks Richard

I assume the Edward you ask about is a grandson but I don't know from which son. I do have a photocopy of his 1818 marriage bond to Elizabeth Jackson. There was also a Henry Kemp in the same area of KY in the 1790's and he signed a marriage bond of one of Reuben's daughters. Maybe Edward is his son. If you would like a copy of Edward's marriage bond, let me know and I will send one to you.
