Dalrymple. William Kemp (b. June 1839, d. 1918 in smith Co., KS, m. Apr. 2, 1865 Berrien Co., MI. William was the son of Alvah/Alva Kemp and 2nd wife Rachel Stith. They had 9 children. Alvah born 1808 VT died 1863 as a result of Civil War disease and is buried in the Alton National Cemetery in Illinois. His parents were Nehemiah Kemp and Betsy Snow. You will find several trees for Betsy Snow at Familysearch.org that include John Alden and Priscilla Mullins of the Mayflower. I can't verify the ancestry of Betsy Snow. You might was to contact the submitters if you are interested. Please feel free to E-mail me directly if I have information that might be useful to you.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/EZm.2ACIB/1141.2.2.1 Message Board Post: As far as I know Lucinda was the only child of Alvah (Alva) Kemp and Eve Barnhart. From his second marriage to Rachel Stith (Apr. 23, 1834 Franklin Co., IN) there are Elizabeth (abt. 1835), Mary F. (abt. 1837), William (june, 1839), Nathan (1842), Julia (abt. 1847), Oscar (abt, 1752), Adelbert (abt. 1854) and Emma (abt. 1858). It is William's son Francis P. "Frank" Kemp whom I have been researching. Tami Dean has been helpful. See also her postings. Alvah was born in Vermont in 1808. I believe he had a brother Nathan, but am not sure about other siblings. He died Nov. 12, 1863 in Alton, IL as a result of disease contracted during the Civil War. He is buried in the Alton National Cemetery, Madison, IL. Alvah's parents were Nehemiah Kemp (b. abt. 1781; d. Jul. 3, 1860 Lyme, Grafton, NH) and Betsy Snow (b, Jul. 27, 1871 Pomfret, Windsor, VT, d. Oct. 10, 1824). There are family trees at Familysearch.org for Betsy Snow that go way back into England and pass through Plymouth. They include John Alden and Priscilla Mullins of the Mayflower. I can't verify that information. You should study them and perhaps contact the submitter for the source of information. Please feel free to E-mail me directly if you would like to share other information.

    3. Hi Joan I have been researching a Kemp family that had a daughter Josephine D. Kemp (b. 1860) who married a Robert Whittleton (b. 1850), they had about 7 children,) they moved back to England, their daughter Kathleen Isabel Whittleton (b. 1889 Bahamas) married Joseph Anthony Frampton in England. Josephine had a sister M.A. Kemp b. abt 1850. I am also researching the family Derecourt and think Josephine D. Kemp may have some connection to our family. Please let me know if there is any connection, or if you have any advice on how to find out more about Josephine's family from the Bahama's. My Grt Grt Grandfather was William Kemp ( brn 1839 Indiana, died 1918 Gaylord, Smith County Kansas) He states in most of the Censuses that his Father was born in Vermont and his Mother was born in Virginia. I want to find his Parents! I know that he had a younger Brother Nathan Kemp who was born in Berrien County, Michigan on Oct. 27, 1842 so their missing Parents were there at that time. Nathan also reports that their Father was born in Vermont and his Mother in Virginia. William Kemp who lived in Berrien from at least 1842 to 1872 married April 2, 1865 in Berrien County to Clarissa/Clara Dalrymple. His brother Nathan Kemp married Sarah Carmen Kemp in 1892. Both Families migrated to Kirwin, Phillips County, Kansas by 1875. William's Family migrated to Gaylord, Smith County, Kansas by 1880. Their folks may have married in Indiana and died in Michigan. William and Clarissa had the following Children born to them while they were in Michig! an: Annitta/Armina <1866>, Frank Preston/ Francis <1868>, Jacob <1870> & Nathan Ralph Kemp brn Nov. 3, 1872. In Kirwin, Kansas; Ruth E.<1875> was born and the twins Pearl Wilbur and Earl William Kemp <1877>. William fought in the Civil War in an Iowa Regiment. Why Iowa? Michigan had regiments. Does anyone have a Kemp born in VERMONT, married someone from Virginia, who gave birth to a William Kemp in Indiana (County Unknown) and a Nathan in Berrien, Michigan? Okay, I will settle for any Kemp who had a Son in Indiana in or around 1839. I'm grasping at straws here. Thank you, Blessings, Tami
