    3. Charles, Yes, you sent me a fine bunch of Info on Reuben Kemp a while back... Go ahead and send it again (if it is simple to attach it to an e-mail) just for good measure... especially if you've updated anything. I'm attaching a Kemp report to you, too. I know I have more in the paper files I need to transcribe, but this will have to do for now. I am no expert on the Reuben and Edward Kemps, so if you notice anything out of line, let me know. Marlene Woods in Confluence, Pa. thought that John S., and the elder Reuben and Edward were probably brothers. There seems to be no firm evidence of this, but it would explain alot... especially given the names (Edward, Reuben, etc.) that get repeated in their generations. 3. Hi Nick, We corresponded before and I think that I sent you my history on my ggggranfather, Reuben Kemp. This is the Reuben who was born in NJ ca. 1740 and had a brother who Marlene Woods refers to as Captain Edward. If you don't have it, let me know. The Kemp family is hard to keep track of as I am sure that you know. Reuben also had a son named Edward who was born around 1770. I recently learned that he had moved from Ky back to PA around 1810. He went to Fayette Co. but that is right next to Somerset. He was married ,apparently for the 2nd. time, in 1807 to Elizabeth Sharp. I did not have the dates for John. S.' birth and death and so found your e-mail interesting. If you want what I have, just ask. Best Regards, Charles Kemp ----- Original Message ----- From: Nick Sheedy<mailto:nsheedy4@yahoo.com> To: kemp@rootsweb.com<mailto:kemp@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, October 18, 2006 3:43 AM Subject: Re: [KEMP] Massy Kemp and family Hello. I'm also related to these Kemps. I show Massey Kemp (dau. of Capt. Edward Kemp) m. to her first-cousin, John T. Kemp (son of John S. Kemp). I descend from Edward Kemp (1772-1847) who married Eve Penrod. In 1816, they moved to Brook Co., Virginia (now West Virginia). The family removed to Jefferson Co., Ohio about 1819 and then to Richland Co., Ohio in 1826. >From what some "cousins" and I can gather, "my" Edward Kemp (1772-1847) was probably the son of John S. Kemp of NJ who lived in south-western PA and also KY. These Kemps have been very difficult to trace. I have also found them in the records of OLD Augusta and OLD Yohongalia counties, Virginia, from the time the suveys were not established in that part of Pennsylvania, and was administered as part of Virginia. I have a more information on the Edward Kemps and Reuben Kemps of the area. We think that the eldest Reuben and Edward were brothers of John S. I would love to compare notes with anyone who is related or interested. --Nick Sheedy, Willis, Texas Here are some notes from correspondence with Marlene Woods, of Confluence, Penn., (date 19 Aug. 2005): She speculates that "my" Edward Kemp (1772-1847) was the son of John S. Kemp (b. abt. 1730 in NJ and d. abt. 1803 of Nelson Co., KY). This John S. Kemp was the father of John T. Kemp who married Massy Kemp (a daughter of Capt. Edward Kemp). John S. Kemp was on the western frontier of Pennsylvania prior to 1765. Pvt. John S. Kemp served in the American War for Independence: "10 PA Line". He received a Virginia land grant for his service: "Kemptown", which is now Addison Twp., Somerset Co., PA. A census for 1790s shows John S. Kemp living in Bedford Co., PA with four sons and one daughter. The 1790s census also shows John T. and Massy (Kemp) Kemp with one daughter (either Elizabeth or Nancy) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! 3. Hello, Yes, the original Edward Kemp was a captain in the Westmoreland Rangers during the Revolutionary War. He was a brother to my ancestor, Reuben Kemp, who was also a captain in the same company. Reuben moved to Kentucky as did Edward but Edward soon moved again to Somerset County, PA where he lived next to the John S. Kemp who was the father of John T. The Massy who married John T. was Edward's daughter and so they were cousins. Do you have the date of birth and death of Edward? Or any other information? I would be glad to send you what I have on him although most is on Reuben. Surnames: Kemp, Miller, Comstock Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EZm.2ACIB/1625 Message Board Post: Anyone a descendant of Hiram Kemp born c1841 in probably Livingston Co, MO? Seemingly married Mary or May Miller 18 Dec 1862 in Trenton, Grundy Co, MO. Family notes say Hiram went "West" and just disappeared. Hiram was the son of John (C.) Kemp born c1797 in most likely VA. John Kemp married Olive Comstock 19 Nov 1840 in Daviess Co, MO. Nothing much is know of John Kemp before his marriage to Olive. Hiram seemingly was the first born to the couple. John Kemp died between 1855-1860. Some clues point to Hiram Kemp being in/around Unionville, Putnam Co, MO, during Civil War. But that Hiram Kemp may not be the correct Hiram Kemp. Just checking to see if any descendant is also checking. Cheryl
